book

I just read a great book by David Baldacci called "The WholeTruth".

My husband, Gene, refers to me as the "Spin Doctor!"  He always says I look for the positive in all situations.  I say if you dwell on the negative that is the course you will follow.  Play negative tapes in your head and that's what will come to you!

In the book "The Whole Truth" there are companies called  PM's (Perception Managers).  They create facts and then sell them to the world as the truth.  The problem is a negative untruth can be established so quickly and spread across the world at lightening speed that no digging by anyone after the fact can make a dent in the public consciousness that it actually isn't truth at all!!  This management of untruths is what can be so dangerous.

A spin doctor spins facts.  There are always two sides in every situation.  You can choose to look at the bright side or the dark side.  You can visualize the glass half full or half empty.  I choose to "spin" the facts on the positive side.  Clients like to work with a positive force; they want answers to questions not excuses.  They want facts that will result in obtaining their goals.  They seek success not the perception of success.

Dorie, And yes if you look for the negative you will find it as well! I also prefer to think positive, even when I feel defeated...you just have to keep looking up! Thank you for the great post!

Dorie, yes, we're in charge of our lives. I see life as a series of events that come without labels; our choice is to place the labels for no one else can do it for us.

Wow. This sounds like the way our media operates now! It's scary, how easily people believe whatever the media reports. The book sounds exciting!

Dorie, so true. Although I am an optimist, I am also a realist and realize that folks will spin things based on their own internal filters...

Lisa,

You are soooo right! It scares me what people just accept as truth from our media coverage.

Michael,

I like that phrase "internal filters". Of course you are right that is where their spinning comes from!

Dorie, My family say they come to me for answers because I get them to look at problems from the other persons side. Or make them dig deeper for more facts. The same is true of real estate. You can find answers and solutions to every problem, you just have to dig deeper to come up with some answers.

Valorie,

Isn't that wonderful that they come to you..digging deeper can really come up with the answers needed to make decisions.

Sounds like a thought provoking read.  The truth is often delivered with a personal slant based on past experiences. We can either focus on the positive or the negative--choice is involved.

Hi Dorie....I consider myself a pragmatic person and don't relate well to spin whether positive or negative.  It is what it is, and I believe in changing what I don't like and trying to improve on what is good.  This might sound a little strange...but hey it's Tuesday and I'm in a Zen kinda mood ;-)  It does sound like a good book though!
