This Social Marketing is a potato with no meat

Real Estate Agent with CB Select Real Estate at Lake Tahoe - 775.691.3855 - DRE: NV28254 CA01139667

I am trying to understand this Twitter and YouTube and Craigs List stuff.  I am still not clear on what it does for my business.  Another agent put a listing thing together for YouTube and ask me to take a look.  I can't even find it.  How in the world is anyone going to find my listings on there?  There are thousands and thousands of these videos to look through.  And Twitter, I see CNN and Fox using them, reading what people say, but I don't have time to tell all of you what I am doing or where I am going.  Heck, I have a hard time just occasionally doing AR and answering my cell phone.  And talk about junk advertising?  I am buried in it everyday.  You know what.......I never put a dime in the stock market.  Yet I get a call every other day asking me if I am still in the market and that some twit of an assistant had called me and now the boss was following up on my request for info...........  WHAT?   No such thing took place.  This is stressful stuff.  I'm already stressed over my real estate career, which was very strong at one time.  Now I am just trying to get a seller who acts like nothing is wrong, tells me they are on their way to Europe or a Cruise, or their daughter is doing so well in the horse world with her miniature ponies or her jumping horses.  The add to that the buyers who I know can buy the house or condo I just showed them.  Why?  Because they just told me the same story as the seller...........  Oh, can't do anything right now, we are on our way for a month in Italy.  Gee just got back from Hawaii...   Boy you should go..   What deals there are now.   Me, I a just trying to pay the bills.......................................................Trip?   Maybe later this year or more likely next year.............if real estate improves........

Hi Ken.  I like your rant.

Things are tough for me as well.  Surprisingly so.

Keep up the good fight,

Twitter: When I post a blog on ActiveRain, it automatically updates my Twitter so my followers will know I have updated my blog. For those who don't follow me yet I normally have a title like "Real estate agents generate leads through social marketing" - with this, people who are searching "real estate social marketing" will find me, and hopefully follow me. Once they follow, they can see what I am doing and if my information benefits them.

Craigslist: HUGE lead generator. I have stats posted on my blog of a few different clients. Posting ad every day can generate buyer and seller leads. I have one client in AL who generates about 20 leads A DAY from posting 3 ads about a foreclosure/bank owned seminar!

YouTube: You have to use it right to have people find you. By tagging your videos with the right keywords "real estate, Las Vegas, home for sale, short sale, foreclosure" - some thing like this, will help people find you. Once it's loaded, it will generate code for you to embed in emails and websites.

If you still have questions from the topics above or other marketing through social networking, let me know.

Kent Social Media Marketing works but it does take time. It sounds like you don't have the time. The best you can do is what you know until you can take on more work or hire on someone who can do it for you. If you ever need help with Twitter or Facebook or any of the other social media sites I am always available to help. email me at I have helped many Realtors set up facebook and I also have some helpful blogs on my activerain page about the great ways Twitter helped my business. Im here to help man. And keep your head up it will get better soon ;)

I loooove this job.....I loooooove this job.....

I actually do love this profession.  The biggest buzz is to close a transaction and be a part of the excitment of the people you represented...   Next to that is Money......

Money is not the most important thing in life but it is ahead of whatever is in second place.

Thanks all for letting me vent....  Ken

You're stuck at Web 1.0 and the world is moving on to Web's an evolving world out there...try everything...see what works for you...perhaps your clients aren't using social media tools yet.

The nice thing about a slow market is the opportunity to learn lots of new things!

Hang in there!  :) PS

I can feel your pain. Last year was my most challenging year ever in real estate. This year, I had to make a change and that change was embracing social networking. I have seen my career blossom once I embraced it. Like Patrick said, we are well on our way to Web 3.0.

Is there any office in the country that uses the old MLS books anymore? I am not certain, but I don't believe there is. Does anyone use an actual typewriter to type contracts anymore? No. Why? It's the same reason we don't still ride around in horses and buggies. With progress comes change.

While I am not, nor do I claim to be a "tech" guru, one of the things I'm told I do well is help people grasp the impact of social networking and how to maximize the free tools that are available to them. And, my goal is to help people, not to create a program that I can sell. I know what it's like to have your formerly successful real estate career, take an unexpected turn. Feel free to give me a call at 913.488.8247 with ANY questions you have.

That goes for you, too, Kellie and Patricia.

I started Facebook a little over a year ago, and AR last August.  AMAZING results in various ways.  I am an old dog learning new tricks, it's HARD!  I just keep moving ahead one step at a time.  Seems that technology is always one step ahead of me and I am always playing catch up.  Even though I am light years behind the curve in some areas, I am light years ahead of most of the pack.  And THAT'S amazing.  I currently have 2 listings from an AR referral, 2 listings from people who found posts of mine by googling random things, and several strong buyer leads from Facebook "friends" who are barely acquaintances.
