Spider Caught During Inspection

By
Home Inspector with Prokore Inspections

While it is common during a home inspection to encounter many different things from structural issues, roof leaks, and improper wiring just to name a few it is not nearly as common to come across pests and insects, especially large ones. While I don't mind crawling through attics and crawlspaces I have to admit I am not entirely a fan of various pests. So, when I encountered an extremely large spider, one of which I have never seen in Minnesota I had to take a picture.

Above is a picture of the spider caught on my camera while inspecting the basement of home. While the picture gives you an idea of the size and look, it unfortunately does little justice. The spider was approximately 4-6 inches wide, and in my personal opinion quite large, larger than I thin I can remember ever seeing.

Looks like Charlotte A. Cavatica aka Barn Spider. The type of spider we saw in Charlotte's Web. They are pretty aggressive too and will come at you with the slighest provication.

Seriously, 4-6 inches?! That's huge... I don't know if I'm man enough to deal with a spider that large!
