Myrl,

I can just picture the little dogies and cowboys branding them in years past.  Great photo!

Ah yes, I grew up in the Midwest in the midst of farm country and remember such sights fondly.  I wouldn't give up those experiences for anything, even if it did mean trudging to the outhouse in the midst of Winter.

Myrl,

I the dogies were little they must have escaped through the openings in the fence.  Either that or I need to set an appoitment with my optometrist.

I agree with Jim and Maria.  The rustic aspect makes this one a beautiful photo.

Hi Myrl...being a city girl I had to add 1+1 to get the "little dogies".  I think I heard the expression in the movies....LOL  Very nice!

Hey Myrl, I love the old rustic pictures you take. You must live in a very beautiful area. Looks like those dogies are long gone.

Toula - I don't think it was quite round-up time yet!

Jim and Maria - I like rustic things too.

Brigita - Then you likely feel at home with that picture:-)

Andrea - It doesn't bring back old times to me - just different times:-)

Richard - I did that outhouse routine just once.  It was in Kansas at Christmas when I was 7.  I'm a California girl.  It's warmer here, and we don't have many outhouses.

Monique - Thank you, and thanks for the visit!

Gerry - I think your eyesight has remained unscathed.  It may be too in the morning for even them.

Debi - If you remember the picture I posted from White Rock Road last Sunday, then all you would need do is turn to the right 90 degrees, and this shot would be your view.  The lighting is a testiment to 6:00 a.m. in the morning:-)

Gail - And it's in the lyrics of a song:-)

Xinh - Most everything is abandoned at that hour:-)

Scott - Me too, rawhide!

Peg and Caron - I was wondering if the PETA or the ASPCA came and rescued them:-)

Sandy - White Rock Road begins where I live and extends into El Dorado County.  I would guess this area to be about 12 miles or so from my home.  If you remember the picture posted last Sunday of the dawn along With Rock Road, this picture was taken at the very same spot.  All you would need do is turn 90 degrees to the right, and this is what you see.  I didn't move an inch!

All you need is a few cowboys and a herd of beef.

Myrl - Lovely shot, I have never actually seen one of these.  From the comment I gather it has something to do with cowboys.

I have to ask you, Myrl, since nobody else did. But I suspect everybody else knows what this is. What am I looking at? Is this a place where cows live? I've obviously never been on a ranch.

Elizabeth and Jennifer - You are right.  It has to do with cowboys:-)  Since I'm a city girl, I'll try to explain in city girl terms.  When I worked up in El Dorado Hills for a number of years, across Latrobe Road from our location were acres upon hundreds of acres of bare land, which cattle would often graze on.

One of these structures would be put into use a couple of times a year.  The cattle people would come out, mount their horses, round up the cattle, and herd them into a holding area, and ultimately, run them through this chute to either brand, mark, or load them on trucks.

I will never forget one special day, I ran out with my camera (I always seem to have one close by), and went up to the fence where the cowboys were working and began taking pictures.  I suspect one of them thought I was some kind of animal rights person, and rode up to me on his horse to question why I was taking pictures.  I explained that I worked across the road for a software development company, with a bunch of city folks, and people from all over the globe, and thought they would find it really interesting.

They invited me to mount up, and ride along with them.  I had a skirt on that day.  And somehow, I didn't think my boss would appreciate me riding off into the sunset with a bunch of cowboys:-) . . . BUT it was so tempting!
