Making phone calls

Do you ever get a sales call and the salesperson just sounds so boring you don't even want to talk to. If you are not prepping your self for the call you may sound boring un excited. Folks its important when making calls to be upbeat and personable.  I make allot of my business from cold calling prospects, when making phone calls you only have one shot to make it, one try.  You can't simply erase what you say to prospects over the phone.  And if you are not excited enough no one will want to talk to you. Here are a few tips I do before making calls to anyone that I am trying to do business with.

First I have a big cup of joe in the morning, usually 3 shots of espresso over ice before making calls.  Its best to call the expired listings first in the morning so your the first to talk.  If you are going to make calls in the afternoon you may try some Vitamin B-12, or a redbull. The last thing you want to do is be yawning before you make a call.

After having a jolt of caffeine or b-12, I run in place for a couple minutes to get the blood flowing.  It helps wake you up and helps you get excited.

Right before you make the call stand up.  Never make phone calls sitting down, this makes you tired and less pleasant to talk to.

No when you talk act very excited about have to say, pretend you just one a million bucks.  Have you ever got a sales call and the guy was so excited you wanted to talk to him because it felt like he had something exciting to talk about.

It may sound a bit ridiculous but try it I guarantee that the prospect will want to talk to you.

Three shots of espresso? I'd be talking so fast that even if they agreed to an appointment, they wouldn't be able to get a word in edgewise.

I spent the first half of my life in radio broadcasting. Two of the tips go back to radio announcers: Many of them thought they sounded better on air if they were standing.Hence there were lots of high, stand-up, chairs. You sat when not live, between songs, but stood when live. The tip from Erika is another old radio trick: Especially when reading a commercial, smile. This did not apply so much if reading a serious news story. The smile makes you sound warmer .....for real. Eric has it right, whatever it takes to sound good on the phone is crucial. He may take more hits of coffee than some prefer, but he knows what he is doing here.
