old logging roadApproximately 30 to 45 minutes away from Red Feather Lakes, is an area called Moose Haven, comprising of an entire section of land surrounded on all four sides by Roosevelt National Forest.

Yesterday was our "field trip" to Moose Haven!

Sweet mountain air, deep forests still waking from spring snow and a picnic lunch!

Wait, did I die and go to heaven?

No, this is a working day! There were real estate signs to put up, and brochure boxes to fill. My broker and guide, along with another associate walked the 35+acre parcels and located most of the property corners. If you haven't walked a 35 acre parcel, let me tell you, that's a lot of walking! There were mushrooms, wildflowers and wild strawberry plants everywhere!

Walking through the forested areas, meadows and crossing the springs, definitely is the only way to see how truly beautiful this area is.

Moose Haven is spectacular!  There are signs of elk and moose everywhere!

Springs "spring up" from the ground in several places.

These 640 acres used to be an old logging camp, called the American Camp. All of the roads within Moose Haven are the same old logging roads that have existed for many years.

(One of the buildings left from the logging camp)

Moose Haven is the perfect getaway to enjoy camping, fishing, hiking and hunting. Game animals include moose, elk, deer and black bear.

A large cow elk ran across the road and crashed through the dense trees on the other side. It's amazing how fast a large animal like that can run!  They are majestic.  We also saw deer yesterday, but no moose or bear.

Moose tracks indicated the moose had already gone in the opposite direction by the time we passed by.

Although the Moose Haven property is private (six 35+acre parcels currently for sale) driving up Deadman Road and Forest Service Rd 169, I noticed there are many public campsites in the forest  to enjoy. The Killpecker Trail is a favorite of hikers and mountain bikers, too!  I had a wonderful day yesterday.  I just had to share another terrific place to see and "just be" in the Red Feather Lakes Area!

Hi Caren! I think you're right, a good place to get lost in, luckily we had maps and a compass. The wild critters aren't too scary - they knew we were there and usually try to avoid people. I'm still jealous of your flying wildlife, though LOL!!  Thanks for your kind comments, Caren, I appreciate that!

Hi Ann!  I agree with you, I would love to spend a week there, too! I think we should pick the week when the wild strawberries are ripe!  Thank you for stopping by tonight, Ann!

Hi Bob, that is wonderful! Glad you liked this post, Bob. I appreciate the feature!

Mary,

That is quite a hike walking the 35 acre parcel!  You must have gotten your fill of exercise for the day, if not more.   All looks beautiful and peaceful at Moose Haven.  Thanks for sharing the "field trip" and the great place to see near Red Feather Lakes.
