Roaring River, Cassville, Missouri
With the price of gasoline so high this Memorial Day weekend, my family and I decided to take a long weekend to do some trout fishing at Roaring River State Park located near Cassville, Missouri.
If you enjoy time away and fishing for trout, Roaring River is an excellent place to go. Roaring River State Park is located 7 miles south of Cassville, Missouri on Highway 112 which is south of Monet, Missouri. Roaring River Spring emerges from the base of a shady limestone bluff and produces an average of over 20,000,000 gallons of water each day. The two and one-half mile spring branch is separated into three fishing zones. No wading is permitted, except in the catch-and-release area in Zone 2. Zone 1 is for artifical bait and lures, Zone 2 only allows flys and Zone 3 allows just about anything you desire to use.
Roaring River State Park covers 3,358 acres and includes a new lodge, swimming pool, cabins, motel, campground, restaurant, nature center, a well-developed system of hiking trails, and more. Roaring River was donated to the state of Missouri in 1928 by Dr. Thomas M. Sayman. Be sure to check out additional links at Roaring River Links for more sites of interest. The last time my family and I were at Roaring River was about 15 years ago. That's just way too long a time to stop and enjoy some time fishing. We would have loved to have been able to secure a 2 bedroom cabin, as these cabins have been improve tremendously since we last were there. They have been updated over the past couple of years and provide a nice place to catch, fillet and cook those smooth tasty rainbows!
My son and his new wife, my daughter and my wife enjoyed two days of fishing, beginning at the sound of the whistle at 6:30 am! Now I know that's early for most of us, but if you want to catch those sly rainbows, you have to rise and shine so you have the advantage. Two pound line at the end of your pole and a hook so small you can barely put any bait on it is what you need.
Now the challenge at that early morning hour is to try to figure out just what the rainbow's appetite demands for that day. If you don't you won't come home with a made up fish story then you must pay the piper. Plus you get to have that all important quality time with your family and building those precious memories and allow the bonding with your family.
So what will you do for a vacation or a quick time away?
Check out the site! With the price of gas so high, this is a great place to go for a relaxing weekend!
