Each year in the spring someone spots a young black bear in the area. We are a very populated town, so this always surprises me. My understanding is that the mother bear gets rid of of teenage sons in the spring.

I have never seen the bear, but he has been close by. The last place he was seen was at the tennis courts at Vassar College. The bear appeared frightened! I would be also, if people came running towards me. Believe it or not: all the tennis people ran toward the bear and not away from it.

The bear was last seen climbing over the fence at the tennis court, to the road.

The US Open is held in the summer in NY. Maybe we will see him then. You won't miss him, he is about 4 feet tall and wears a furry black coat. Maybe even tennis shorts. Look out Roddick your competition has arrived.
