No Turning Back Now, Have we reached a point of no return?

It is amazing to see how close this country is to all out Socialism and most of us either do not care of don't know what to do at this point. I find it amazing that we are creeping up to a national unemployment rate for 11 percent before the year is over. This is a much higher rate of unemployment that the Carter administration and yet the media seems to report a 61 percent approval rating. The congress (which is completely controlled by democrats) seems to get away with blaming the Bush administration, but in January it was below 8 percent. A record 2 plus million jobs have been lost, and yet supposedly a high approval rating.

We are on the verge of having a government opposed and controlled medical care system, by an administration that has accrued a historic debt of 4 plus trillion dollars, to a point where we have lost a top credit rating as a country and larger countries like Russia and China are uncomfortable with the prospects of their investments here and yet the media still reports a high approval rating.

Realtors, did you know that you were small business owners? I don't mean to sound condescending, but you are. No one is bailing you out and you are dropping like flies in this economy. Will you continue to be satisfied with the current administration blaming the previous administration for all of the woes today?

How good of a job do you feel the government is doing to date? Yes, this is a bit of a rhetorical question, that being said, why would you allow the government to control health care? Especially, when everything they touch turns to dust and is obliterated? Today the government announced that they want to limit exec pay in the private sector. Guess what, do you think that you as Realtors are going to avoid government regulation of that sort in our industry. Think again, the government is much like a cancer when it comes to meddling in areas that it doesn't belong, IT SPREADS!!!

I would love to know your thoughts on this subject from both sides. If you are a democrat or republican or independent, how do you feel about the things that are taking place. If you disagree with me, please tell me why and don't resort to blaming the previous administration. We are in the here and now and have to deal with the problems at hand. The current solutions proposes and enacted by the Obama administration are failing miserably and having the opposite effect. How long will you sit around and listen to president Obama announce that this next strategy will either create or save so many jobs?

I would love to hear from you, let's make the conversation lively and respectful.

Sincerely,

Steven Wright

Steven - you are brave to post this - be ready to be personally attacked by Obama supporters!  Personally I agree with everything you said!  I do think that government is getting way to deep into areas it shouldn't be in.  So far people are being fooled because like Frank Abignale says in the movie Catch Me if You Can - "You know why the Yankees always win?  Its because everyones busy looking at their pinstripes"  This administration seems to get away with saying one thing but doing just the opposite because the media is so enamored with him that they do not ask the tough questions that are begging to be asked!

Brian.

I better get ready for attacks also.

Let them attack, they only attack because they don't have good arguments to defend what obama is doing. Obama has been elevated by the media to god status and they can't be objective. Neither can Obama supporters. I say bring it, but keep it intelligent.

Well, no attack from me.  I am right in there with you.

Obama Mania.

More true than anyone imagined.

But, then, I don't blame the Big Middle wich leaned Democratic in the last election.  I blame Bush's excesses for that.

I was mad at him, too.

Just not mad enough to help put Obamaniacs in charge.

Hi Steven,

While I'm a bit too busy to go on an Obama rant, I have to commend you for bringing up some very strong points.

I hope you'll remember me if you learn of anyone moving to "The OC" and I will do the same!

Well, looking into my crystal ball I can tell you're an avid listener to Hannity and Rush. You may in fact be as close to Hannity as one can get. The Socialism reference is certainly a scare tactic and slight directed at this administration from day one that was begun and perpetrated by the 2 previously named individuals. We are a long ways away from that. Our president has been in office shy of 5 months and this is the kind of nonsense that hard right Republicans spew on a daily basis. If he's taken us as close to socialism in that period as the right says he has, he's certainly achieved more in that period than any president before him. This is in no way said to make the posture of the hard left Democrats seem less severe. I whole heartily believe that both 'wings' would be best off getting some land on their own and establishing their own country. I have serious disdain for any extreme right or left party registrants.

I'm a small business. I didn't get bailed out. Nor did I expect to. For the sake of our economy the bank & financial concerns bail outs started prior to this administration and continued through it. Auto industry assistance and intervention started with this administration. Both needed to be done. Name a President that walked into so many problems. Failing Banks, Record foreclosures, failing auto industries, war, rising unemployment, failed international diplomacy, etc.I'm not saying the previous administration was at fault. This is just part of the big old wheel of progress or lack there of turning. All I'm saying is that I don't believe an administration other than FDR ever had the cumulative issues to deal with that Obama and his staff has had to deal with.

As for National health care, check the history of it. The issues goes back to before Nixon! Every Administration has promised to make a move on it. Yet no one has. One thing is certain. There are far to many Americans without Health Care, or struggling financially just to keep it. The system as it is, is certainly broken and needs to be fixed. I feel good that at least we have a President that recognizes the need to address the issue and takes action to do just that.

As for my rating of President Obama and his administration. I'll grade them a C, as in wait and see what we look like after the first year. If we're then a socialist country, what day do I get to drive your car?

PS - I am a registered Republican just waiting for a real American to step up and take charge. I miss Ron! I miss being a proud member of the party. I'm tired of the non-sense of the last 20 years.

Scott,

Very well thought out article. I rarely get to listen to Hannity and Rush, but I do like them both. Although we are not fully a Socialist country yet, we are very close and we could fulfill the technical definition by the end of the year. When the government controls and dominates where the private sector once did, what do you call that? Surely it isn't capitalism? Is it?

As for the driving of my car, I will have to get back to you on that one. We will have to see what "The One" says about the use of my big truck. Good day Comrade.

Steven,

Republicans seem to forget that Obama didn't cause this mess-he INHERITED it. The crap didn't hit the fan until after he took office. What's he supposed to do, sit on his hands?

Terry, I find it amusing that your line of reasoning involves the statement republicans caused it and obama inherited it. Very amusing, you see if republicans over spent and caused this mess, is the appropriate response by the democratic majority "even more spending" as a matter of fact more than all presidents combined. Come on Terry, shouldn't we be cutting programs and government instead of adding numerous more programs and government officials. Doesn't it disturb you that the government is becoming bigger by the day. Did the republicans tell obama to spend almost 3 trillion dollars in 4 months?

Okay, time for my real comment.  I'm not going to go down the road of who inherited what and why.  Frankly, it's a shortcut to thinking and not much in the way of providing an immediate and more importantly, a long-term solution.

What does boggle this man's mind is the God complex thrown around.  There were a few far left folks who may have used the words, "The One", in regards to Mr. Obama.  I heard it more from the far right, but what are you going to do.  The folks that were so all aboard on whatever Barack would say before he actually did anything, that worried me.  And now, less than a half a year into his presidency, I read and hear the far right not only wondering why things aren't solved yet, but why he and his administration are making such a staunch impact in a short time.  Apparently, they are changing the world in a few short months.  I didn't agree with his (Barack's) supporters that he was the ultimate answer and I certainly don't agree that he is the ultimate answer.  We are, humanity.  It's funny, the very folks who perceived his candidacy and presidency as a bunch of people drinking Kool-Aid, are now the very folks who seem to want to garner a few miracles overnight.  A sip is a sip, a slip is a slip.  Kool-Aid is drank by both sides.

I don't know about you, I just want the world to be a better place.  Extremes rarely get there.

I'm thrilled to pieces every day to think that Obama is our President. Thrilled. Completely.

Re health care? I'm so boggled that there are real estate agents who are against national health care given that most of us have to pay huge amounts to insure ourselves.  Having a profit making entity - the insurance industry - in between citizens and health care is ludicrous. It always blows my mind - and disgusts me - that the tallest buildings in town are owned by insurance companies.

I laugh all day long at some of the stuff that is spouted by the far right. Of course Obama inheirited the mess and to try to suggest otherwise doesn't make sense. And expecting instant changes considering the mess that was made makes no sense at all. I know we're on a better track and the improved mood of the country suggests there are plenty that agree with me.  Happy day - an intelligent, capable, inspiring President - yahoo!!!
