Ever wondered what animals you are more likely to see and/or encounter during a visit to Yellowstone?

The following is a recent count of the animals living in Yellowstone Park:

Cougars ....................20

Wolves ....................150

Grizzlies...................200

Bighorn Sheep.........500

Pronghorns..............500

Black Bears..............700

Moose.....................700

Mule Deers............1,000

Bison....................4,000

Elks....................10,000

In three visits to Yellowstone, I have not yet seen a cougar nor a wolf but I am more likely to see any of the other animals listed above (which I have seen there).   There are also 311 different species of birds including eagles and ospreys. 

Here are photos of some of the animals I was able to see and photograph during my most recent visit to Yellowstone.

A few of the 4,000 bison in the Park.  You are assured to see plenty of them especially in the Lamar Valley.

I could not help to snap this photo of the bison and calf.

My friends first spotted this mountain goat and point it out to me.  I captured this above photo using the zoom lens of my digital camera.

With so many elks in Yellowstone and the many photos I took in which they appeared, I decided to share my two favorite photos. 

The one above I took with the beautiful scenery of Yellowstone Lake and near some hot springs at the West Thumb Geyser Basin (expect more photos of Yellowstone Lake and the West Thumb Geyser Basin in a future post).  I could not believe that a couple of elks were roaming in this area full of hot springs and scalding hot water (I guess they knew not to drink nor get to get in contact with the scalding hot water).

And, the one below that one of my friends took and that I will leave you with.
