Questions

I have a question for any or all of you Google Alerts experts!

I currently have three Google Alerts:

  1. Lake Norman Real Estate
  2. Mooresville Real Estate
  3. Diane Aurit

If one searches Lake Norman Real Estate my blog comes up #1 and has for quite some time.

Recently, when I write a post instead of it falling under my Lake Norman Real Estate Google Alert, it falls under my Diane Aurit Google Alert.    Then, a day later when I post it to my AR blog I get a Lake Norman Google Alert with the same post.  I'm wondering if Google Alerts chooses the strongest catagory and that perhaps my name now has more Google juice than Lake Norman Real Estate?  It seems weird but it is the only answer I can come up with.

I am very curious as to why this is happening and would love anyone who happens to know to share it with me!

Thank you!

Hi Diane,

Thank you for asking this question. I'm not currently using any Google alerts, and will be interested to read everyone's input to see whether or not to start signing up for them.

I hope you'll remember me if you learn of anyone moving to "The OC" and I will do the same!

Best regards.

Diane, don't have a clue either, but I'll be interested to see if anyone does.

Diane, are you saying you post it to another blog first and then post it to your AR blog?  Does it always happen this way now?

Daine - interesting question. I have about 2 dozen alerts that I track, although not nearly as carefully as I should. What I find interesting are the alerts for my name where I have made comments, or the name is somewhere on the post, but not an article I wrote. I also find some come in very quickly after an article was written and other times there is quite a lag. I stopped trying to make sense of it.

Hi Diane,
I can't figure it out either--seems to be no rhyme or reason.

Not even the SEO people seem to really know as there is a lot of arbitrary decision making going on from what I have read by the "experts" but just keep it up, #1 rocks no matter how you do it!

Diane

I am still trying to figure this one out, and I am not making any progress.

Michael:  You might want to use Google Alerts to follow what people are writing about the OCAR.  Good luck!

John:  I hope so!

Patrick:   I went to the link but it does not explain how they prioritze there content for each alert.  I wrote a post yesterday that again came up under my name on my alert but when I Google the exact title it my blog comes up first.  Still confused but not worried.

Chandra:  I personally decided to post first to my own blog and then the next day I post it to ActiveRain.  You can chose to do them in any order.  I hope this helps!

Patrick:  You are welcome.

Jeff:  It is a bit confusing, that's for sure.  I'm wondering if now that our names have been out there for years they rank higher than our blogs in terms of Google Alerts.

Cynthia:  I'm still hoping I will get an answer!

Margaret:  The link that Patrick provided gives great information but I couldn't find an answer to my question.  Oh well!

Terry:  I couldn't find the answer at the link so let me know if you do!

Steve:  You are so right!

Tom:  Well, I guess you have good company:)

Diane, I use google alerts as well and it amazes how fast blogs are found. And as Jeff said, I also receive them for my name which shows up on different comments I have made.
