Photo taken at Blue Heron Wetlands, a water reclamation project in Titusville FL. He was just resting at the side of the road and not bothered, in the least, by my presence. I was about 6-8 from him so zoom wasn't necessary. I was totally intrigued by THE EYE!!!

Soft shell? Usually, you see them swimming around with their noses sticking up like a straw, I never saw their eyes this close. Wonderful photo as always!

I love turtles. They really are primodial. Thanks for the great photo. I do envy you in Florida as you have many exotic looking and actual species

Hi Charlie....don't be envious, there are times when I would eagerly trade places - like today when it's mid-90's. But we really do have some neat stuff ;-)

Hi Tammy...he definitely was watching me but also not bothered at all. He never pulled in or tried to get away. Great for me :-) I was only a few feet away so zoom wasn't needed.

This guy looks to be well past retirement age. The eye is a little frightening. ;-)

Oh what a great close up. The eyes are unbelievable.

His "nose" is what caught my eye. As a teen I worked on the Ridley Turtle Project in Galveston and I have never seen a nose like this. Neat photo!

Hi Marchel....he was both watching and nonchalant, he really wasn't bothered - never pulled his parts inward, didn't move. Hmmm, I think he was as intrigued with me as I was with him.

Thanks Betina....I did another Softshell Turtle picture a couple of months ago, but I wasn't able to get this close. I thought the eyes were blue so this is a wonderful surprise.

Oh Dear! What an eyeball! Can he really see out of those? LOL I saw a teenager recently with contacts that looked alot like those.... This truly looks like a creature from the lagoon - OH! It is!!!!

Hi Gail, So this is what they look like uup close and personal! ?? That eye is very unique in a really creepy sort of way! Leave it up to you and the swamp creatures to keep thing interesting around here!

C'mon Mary.....you crave this, don't you....hahahaha. What creepy, there's a planet within that beam. This creature is definitely old world and probably knows everything. Treat with respect, you never know when you might see his relatives in Colorado ;-)

Gail, it actually took me a few minutes to figure out this was a turtle! That's quite a schnoz he's got there!

LOL @Pat....you crack me up, you've such a way with words. That schnoz you can sometimes see poking up through the water to catch a breath of air. I think he's quite handsome....all things considered ;-)

He gives me the willies!! How are you Gail, my friend? I've missed you.... been working and not getting paid for it!! But I have some time now and I am checking in on my friends.
