Bill 4 (2009) - Prohibiting the Use of Electronic Devices While Driving

By
Real Estate Agent with Liberty Homes RS-#62825

Yup! I'm all for the Bill passing and starting on Wednesday, July 01!  It's going to stop all this text messaging, game playing and so forth while driving (and weaving all over the road).  I've used hands free technology (Bluetooth earset) for years just for the fact it was safer with answering so many phone calls during my drive to and from each destination.

With all the accidents and even instances with public bus drivers playing games while driving (that's scarey) it's about time we had this bill passed. I think back to when I used to smoke and talk on the phone at the same time. .....  <groan>

There is NO grace period allowed...in case you are wondering. More from the Honolulu Police Department website here>>>>>  http://www.honolulupd.org/traffic/electronic_devices.htm

19 days and counting :)

I agree with you. Our battle here is over smoking. Next I hope the sell phone while driving ban happens.

Sally, we're not allowed to use our cell phones either, while driving, or any other device that makes you take your eyes off the road.  We must use hands-free devices.

We're also not allowed to smoke in our cars, if there are children in the car.
(I don't smoke anyway, and I think it's a great law, and it should apply worldwide.)

Next, I hope they start banning the 'putting on make-up while driving', 'reading the newspaper on the steering wheel, while driving', spilling your hot coffee all over the place while driving.....

Sis - I've been an offender in the past.  That written, I also concur with this particular law.

Just so you all know...I mentioned that I used to smoke and talk on the phone. Can you see me holding a cigarette, driving with one hand and trying to take a puff and still talk?  The Bluetooth (handfree) earpiece I have come to love. I even use it at home while typing, emailing, scanning (work) and talking on the phone as well. I use it while I'm vacuuming and have my phone hanging around my neck so I can hear it and shut off the vacuum.

Don't knock it until you try it..... and now we HAVE to. Good...it'll stop my daughter and her husband from driving and texting...that worries me all the time.

The driving and texting thing really scares me.  I'm glad that y'all have passed this, and hopefully we'll see something like it soon.

Jim/Maria: I'm glad we did too...it's like an addiction for these kids...text...no talking.

I agree with limiting the use of theses devices while driving.  I use my GPS system (guess through Bluetooth) to answer calls and voice dial when driving.  Still it is only rarely!

Sally--I think a ban on all distractions while driving would be best.  I know I am guilty of talking, eating and thinking while driving. Guess I should just concentrate on driving and not think about my next appt.

Helloooooooooooooooooooo Wooo hooo Sally.   Hope all is well with you and yours.     This bill was passed in NJ for probably over a year and I still drive and more than 1/4 of the people I pass are yapping on the phone not using a hands free device....   I don't get it!!

Sally - well good luck. I'm glad to se the law passed here as well some time ago but it has certainly NOT stopped the cell phone use (with the hand), or texting or emailing. Maybe they are collecting more money from tickets but I can;t say it has curtailed the usage, although it seems to have helped some. Time will tell. Not enough cops to ticket the offenders I guess.

Sally,

I'm all  for banning cell phones while driving; there's already too many distractions. I'm one of the few who actually pull over and stop to answer a call.
