It is June, the sun is shining and the sky is blue.  I took these two photos of Red Lodge today from the view point just East of town.  They are from two different angles.  Feel free to let me know which one you like.

Red Lodge, Montana - June 2009

I will be working and doing an open house on Saturday but I have plans on Sunday to go whitewater rafting in Absarokee (just 30 miles from Red Lodge) with friends who are visiting this weekend from out of State.  It's Good to Be Here!!

Gerry - I like them both but the first one is my favorite. In either case, I would be tempted to crop some of the vignetting in the upper corners. What a beautiful location.

Hi Gerry,

For me, I definitely like the one with the flowers better. It just has way more depth to it. And the splash of color sets it off. Nice shots. : )

Hey there....I also like both, but I think the second one has more appeal. I like when I can take pictures like that and get something unique out of it.....and I'm using just a little point and shoot digital...

Be sure to watch for my Montana pictorial on Facebook soon!

I like them both, for different reasons.  The top has a vintage feel, like when William Henry Jackson photographed the American West. (Jackie DeShazer had a MT shot like that this week also!). If done in sepiatone, it could pass for an Old West shot. The second one feels "happier" and like you were sitting on a picnic blanket and snapped a shot! Fave? The wabi-sabi lover in me votes for #1!

Gerry - I like the top one better without the flowers.  However, I like the brightness of the second photo better.  Did you use an automatic setting or change manual settings between both photos since they were both only taken a minute apart?

Mike and Sheryl,

Thank you for the feedback. I took your advice. See the revised photos in my follow-up post.

Michael,

Thank you.   You said it with flowers.  :)

Thom and Ray,

Let me know when the pictorial is available and I will go and check it out.

Cheryl,

I appreciate your suggestions.  I applied the sepiatone on the photo that got your vote.  See the revised photos in my follow-up post.

Michael,

Thank you for choosing both.

Marc,

I used the automatic setting for the second and the distant scenery setting for the first.  The flowers can be distracting.   In the first photo, the focus is on the town and the view.   In the second, the addition of the splash of colors gives it the picnic blanket feel that Cheryl referred to above.
