I don't watch a lot of television, preferring instead to listen to music, especially since I'm a music collector and have over 25,000 digital music files in my collection. If I didn't spend time listening to them, I would think that I had wasted my time and money.
I do watch one movie a week from my Blockbuster queue, and I have some specific shows that I will watch when I know they are on, such as any "Star Trek" episode, "I Love Lucy," "The Dick Van Dyke Show," "The Mary Tyler Moore Show," and "Will and Grace."
So how is it that just as soon as I turn the television on, this is what I see:
How does she know? She can be out in the garage on top of the garage door opener, but within seconds of turning the television on, there she is.
Before the rip off the can tops...and a couple cats ago..my dearly beloved Vixen...could hear the can opener from another floor...and immediately "knew"...it had to be his veal and gravy...tender beef or tasty tuna and was crawling up my leg to get a better look and make sure I didn't snitch !
She is too cute! She says she wants you to pay attention to her, not the tv! At least that's what my cat does...if I"m trying to be productive that's when he needs loves. He looks just like your cat except he is about triple her size. He's a beast. Thanks for sharing!
Animals are so smart . . . they feel things way before we do . . .
We went to a concert once and ALL the animals in the house we left from (macaws, cats, dogs and a ferret) were FREAKING out when we left. Their owner joked that they did stuff like that before an earthquake.
When we got back from the concert which was loud and noisy . . . we found out that there had indeed been a quake. The critters knew this hours before . . .
Hey, Toula - Not only are they smart, but they seem to have better hearing than any dog I've ever owned.
Hey, Sally and David - Zoey the Cool Cat knows the sound of the rip-off can tops. She comes running because she likes to lick the juice off the top of the can. Good for me because then I don't have to waste water during a Level 2 drought alert to wash the can top off before throwing it in the trash.
Hey, Silvia - I wonder if it's like "Poltergeist" where there's more coming out of the television than I know about.
Hey, Charles - I hope those extra senses work when the big earthquake is due.
Hey, Dan - You have a good point. The other night Zoey the Cool Cat was asleep on my printer and the television was on to an old Star Trek episode that had a cat as a significant role. Every time that TV cat meowed, Zoey the Cool Cat would look up to see where it was.
Hey, Jenn - Zoey the Cool Cat weighs in at just under 12 pounds. That would seem to indicate that you have a Maine Coon Cat. I love them.
Hey, Candice - I'm hoping that Zoey the Cool Cat's extra senses help me a couple of hours before that "big one" hits California and drops it off into the ocean.
Hey, Norma - She has a captive audience, with or without the television on - LOL.
Hey, Ann - Zoey reacts to the big tube TV out front, but she doesn't seem to care about what's on the plasma television in the office.
All three of ours have their own little routine of when they want attention. Gabby sleeps with us and sleeps on the back of the sofa behind us when we watch tv. Ittle Bitty wants to sit in my lap for petting as soon as I walk in the door from work and Skitty Kitty comes out after the dogs go down for the night to get her fill of petting. They are very smart and you are right they hear great.
Russel - I think this question will remain unanswered for all time. Here's another for you...you have a room full of stuff, the cat is nowhere in sight and you add something new to the room. The next thing you know the cat shows up and goes right to the new item. How do they do that???
I think there might be something to the 'extra' stuff coming out of tv that we don't know but cats do. Then again it doesn't seem to work on our Maddie! ~Rita
Russel, cats are very sensitive to heat. When you look at something, the light waves bouncing off your eyeballs heat up what you're looking at and the cats go for the warm spot. Hey, it's an answer! :)
Zoey is like Izzy in that respect. Izzy will park himself for the last ten minutes of any show I take an interest in in front of the TV. Oh, except for Ohio State Football, I think he knows better.
Russel, she wants to be the center of a-t-t-e-n-t-i-o-n. Simple! It's the same thing they do when you're trying to read the newspaper or write. At least in our house :)

Hi Russel:
Cats are smart!
They do have that extra sense....
