This has happened to me Twice in a Week

This week I was backing out of my drive-way and I got a phone call.

"What time does the Saline Rec Center open today?" Saline Rec Center

Pardon me...

"This is the Saline Recreation Center, isn't it"?

No, did you read something about Saline Recreation Center and it had my name on it?"

"Yes"

Fortunately I knew the number of Saline Rec by memory and gave it to him.

Yesterday, I got another one.

Side Track Bar and Grill "Hi, can I book a table to the SideTrack Bar and Grill for Happy Hour?"

Pardon me...

"I want to book a table for the SideTrack for Happy Hour, what time does it start and end."

I told her I had no idea.

"She said, "oh well I'm reading AnnArborRealEstateTalk and thought you were the owner."

We laughed and I thanked her for reading my blog but it was just a post on where they had the best hamburgers.

I went and looked at Google and yep there were my posts on Saline Rec Center and The SideTrack on page one.

that's funny... I have got a few similar calls. Not to the Saline Rec Center though.

Missy...thanks for the nudge. I'm working on this with market reports for the various condo buildings, but I'm obviously doing something wrong...the posts don't show up anywhere! (Using AR, as I don't have an outside blog....)

One day this will all come together!

But on a serious side note, you must be doing something right, right?

I get bunches of those too ... Am I Heritage Square? Am I the Lummis Home? Like, Missy, most times I can give the caller the phone number and the info.... :-)

Some people complain about getting those calls, but I never mind. Most of the time I can give the info and have made someone think of me in a good way. That is all I can ask some days.

Congratulations on becoming the "go to" person in your area. I had a similar phone call a while ago that took me by surprise for a second, so it's great when it happens. You just never know who the caller knows looking to buy or sell real estate and you could end up with a customer out this some day.

LOL, me too. Where is the nearest Shell station???!!!! and why are you calling me? Because I read your blog. Sometimes I like the calls and sometimes I just can't help.

This has happened so many times to us! Usually I'll write a blog and then Jim will end up with a phone call about something obscure. When he tells me about it I'll tell him that we have a post about that and it will all make sense. At least people are reading what we write!

Nothing wrong with that. Anytime you get people calling you about happy hour, it's a good day.

After spending so much time blogging, it is nice to receive those calls, especial; especially if we know the answers. Content is King (or Queen, in this case!)

This has happened to me a few times as well. It has usually been someone thinking a restaurant is for sale that I have written about.

Yes, I've become the local yellow pages too. By now, I know they got it from one of my posts, I just give it to them after explaining what I do. I also have Title/ Escrow companies call me - knowing that I'm a Realtor in the area for HOA phone and contact numbers. Now, you would think they have those numbers handy. I'm just a Realtor!

Hi Missy...I had someone e-mail for suggestions on types of trees to buy for our area. She was buying it for a friend that lived here. I sent her some suggestions and then she wrote again to order one.

Yes, I had written a post about a local nursery so I suggested she contact them. Now, if she had only wanted a waterfront house.

Missy, I think of it as a side effect of blogging. Every time I mention my astrologer's name on here, I get calls and emails from people looking for him....he has no listing! I'm thinking he owes me a free reading :)

That's great - it shows how much blogging pays off & definitely being the "local" expert. I attended two local events yesterday with my flip video - that is definitely my focus right now - being the local expert. You set a fine example!!

Hey, Missy, I got one of those calls the other day, too. This woman wanted to know who owned the Big Spoon yogurt franchise. I was beginning to wonder, what is this? Does she think I'm a walking librarian? Then it dawned on me that she read a blog I posted a while ago about Big Spoon coming to Land Park.

Lately, I've been including school info in my localism posts and got a call last week from a parent wanting to know the date Montgomery County School starts this year - thought they were calling Montgomery County Schools.

For the last 2 years I've gotten at least 2 calls a month with a caller thinking they were calling Hannigan's Auto Body in Silver Spring. This was a business I posted about almost 3 years ago!

Missy - oh my have I had those experiences. Requests for restaurant reservations, hotel reservations at La Costa, info about the Best Buy, and much more. I find it amusing, but glad to see the posts are out there even if the calls are not necessaily what I expect. You never know.

:) I got a call a few weeks ago from someone wanting me to "broker her organic squash" tracked back to a post on farmer's markets - you gotta love it!

Well, at least you know the blogs are being read! I had someone call and yell at me- said there were several people at a local market parking lot for the recycling event I had blogged about. Well, the blog post was a year old, and I never thought to put the year on it!

Missy, I get calls regularly asking what time the movies start and what movies are showing at the Fleming Island Cinema! I also keep the phone number so I can help. Google juice, gotta love it! :)
