Attention Animal Lovers - Please Help Support the Anti-Tethering Bill

Real Estate Agent with Diane Turton, Realtors, Forked River, NJ

As a supporter of the American Humane Association,
I urge you to support Assembly Bill 3803.

Here is the link:    Anti-Tethering Bill

Introduced by Assemblyman Anthony Chiappone, Assembly Bill 3803 is a
critically important initiative that addresses the cruelty and danger
of excessively tethering dogs.

Just last April, a 9-year-old Camden boy was mauled so badly by a
tethered dog that he required hospitalization and more than 100
stitches. Yet despite its tragic impact on local communities, excessive
tethering of dogs remains an overlooked social issue which is rarely
even investigated in New Jersey.

AB 3803 will limit the amount of time dogs can be tethered in a 24-hour
period (prohibiting tethering between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. or for more
than one hour outside of those times.) This will give animal control
officers the solid parameters they need in order to respond to
complaints of animal abuse.

This is a moderate bill. AB 3803 allows dogs to be tethered in order to
protect the dog or a person, and to conduct law enforcement, veterinary
treatment, grooming and training activities.
I urge you to support this bill.

Please vote for AB 3803. I look forward to seeing what action you take
regarding this important matter.

Hi Toula,

We have been working on this is our area.  We finally got the county council to adjust the chaining laws to a minimum of 10 feet long, no choke chains, must have food, shelter and water. These county people act like they are proud of themselves for making sure big changes. We have people with their dogs on 2 foot chains held on the dogs neck with a padlock. We call the police or animal control and no one sees a problem and absolutely none of these officers know what the state laws are and don't care to learn.

Hi Jackie - It's just unreal...the laws need to be improved and enforced.  Keep up the good work!

I was not aware of this. I just can't believe that some people would do this to their dog. They don't deserve to have one. I really hope this bill passes.  Thanks for making me aware of this.
