Our flag means all that our fathers meant in the Revolutionary War.  It means all that the Declaration of Independence meant.  It means justice.  It means liberty.  It means happiness.... Every color means liberty.  Every thread means liberty.  Every star and stripe means liberty.  ~Henry Ward Beecher

The flag of the United States has not been created by rhetorical sentences in declarations of independence and in bills of rights.  It has been created by the experience of a great people, and nothing is written upon it that has not been written by their life.  It is the embodiment, not of a sentiment, but of a history.  ~Woodrow Wilson

You're a Grand Old Flag
by George M. Cohan

You're a grand old flag,
You're a high flying flag
And forever in peace may you wave.
You're the emblem of
The land I love.
The home of the free and the brave.
Ev'ry heart beats true
'neath the Red, White and Blue,
Where there's never a boast or brag.
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
Keep your eye on the grand old flag.

You're a grand old flag,
You're a high flying flag
And forever in peace may you wave.
You're the emblem of
The land I love.
The home of the free and the brave.
Ev'ry heart beats true
'neath the Red, White and Blue,
Where there's never a boast or brag.
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
Keep your eye on the grand old flag.

I enjoyed Caroline's recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance (and her instructions).  Her singing was adorable too!

Glad to see I'm not the only one that remembers this day. I think too many people have forgotten about Flag Day or the history of our flag.

Very nice Missy! I just watched the Cohan story with Jimmy Cagney and I got my usual goosebumps. I posted a pic of a huge flag flying in Akron today. I love driving by it everyday, thankfully, it's on my way to the office. Be careful in the windy city! Go Bucks, Go Blue..................only for you can I say that.........

Missy- Happy Flag Day! Betsy Ross made one beautiful flag! And I am honored to fly it. I am the den leader for the wolf pack in cub scouts for church and every week the boys stand to say the pledge, with God in it. I also start our homeschool days off with prayer, scriptures and the pledge. Tristan knew it by heart when he was 3 years old.

Missy, What a precious video that was.  I caught a great picture of a flag at a Memorial Day celebration and held it just for this day!  We fly our flag 24/7 and have pretty much since the gulf war.  We are tickled pink to have our son home this flag day.  How are your boys doing?

Missy... please don't get me started... it more than irks me when those burn the flag here on American soil, that are so-called Americans, just because they can, that it's their right and their freedom of speech. They have no idea of what that FLAG stands for then... and yes, it irks me and that is just me being polite.  ;o)   Thanks for the inspiration post after a very tough and trying weekend because of a family situation.  Have a great week.
