Check Your Credit Report to Ensure that You Get the Best Rates for Your Michigan Mortgage

When you're ready to apply for a Michigan mortgage and you want to be sure that you're getting the best possible rates, take the time to check your credit report.

More importantly, take the following steps to ensure that there are no mistakes in your credit history.

1. Get a copy of your credit report from each of the three reporting companies; make sure that their information about you is up to date and be sure to dispute any inaccuracies;
2. Ensure that you are making all necessary payments on time as late payments will have a negative impact on your overall credit score;
3. Be sure that you are not over-using the credit that's extended to you. Just because your credit card has a $5,000 limit doesn't mean that you should carry a balance near that amount.

In other words, take all of the necessary steps to improve your credit score. The better your credit, the better the rate of your Michigan mortgage.
