Since my dad was in the Air Force, we often had a flag flying at our home on holidays.
I went to college at Texas A&M University, a significant military school that still puts out more military officers than all but the five military academies. With a Corps of Cadets numbering over 2,000, there are many flags flying on the 5,200-acre campus, especially on holidays and football game days.
So where do I wind up living and working? San Diego, which claims to be the second largest concentration of military personnel in the free world, behind the D.C./Arlington area.
Many military personnel move to, through, and back to San Diego each year, and when their military career is up, they tend to stay. So it's not surprising that you can travel throughout the San Diego area on any given day -- not just holidays -- and see dozens and dozens of flags flying proudly in the wind.
Happy Flag Day!
No matter where I see it, or how many times I see it each day, Old Glory is beautiful.
You are right about all the military people staying there. My father in law retired from the Navy and then went back to work on the base and just retired again last year. Beautiful flag photos. Is the round place the one that rotates?
Hey, Kim - I think Old Glory is the most beautiful flag in the world, partly because of what it represents.
Hey, Fran and Rowena - The cool thing about San Diego is that the flags fly proudly every day. Only one of the pictures in my post was taken today. All the others were taken on plain old days of the week or weekend.
Hey, Tammy - The round place is one of the restaurants at the Marriott Hotel and Marina downtown on the Harbor. I forget which one since I've never eaten there. I think it's probably too expensive for me, as many hotel restaurants are. The National Association of Realtors Convention in November is going to be here in San Diego, just a few steps from the Marriott.
Russel, I should have taken my camera with me today, I missed so many flag ops! Great pictures. I have a friend who is a vexillologist. Flag day is his favorite, he lives for flags!

It's wonderful to see our beautiful flag flying. I love the sight of it.
