Instead of a URL like this:  Facebook.com/home?8734.9320?.urp2345 for your Facebook profile page, why not have something like this instead:

www.Facebook.com/Mirela.Monte

This Friday night at 12 midnight, Facebook made vanity plates available for their current users.  In the first three minutes, about 200,000 user names were registered.  In fifteen minutes, users had picked out half a million custom URLs.  Within one hour, over 1 million Facebook user names had been snapped up.

If you already have a Facebook account, you may want to secure your name or some other catchy phrase for your profile page.  I garnered www.Facebook.com/MyrtleBeachHomes for my business page.

You can then add that easy URL to your website or business cards, so your clients, friends and associates can find you on Facebook, keep in touch and network.

Social media is here to stay.  You might as well participate.  Happy networking!

RealEstateInReno, or some other catchy, easy to remember name should do you well on Facebook.  You may also want to have two Facebook accounts: one for your personal life and one for your business life.  Ideas, ideas...

Mirela,

I think you should definitely have two.  Some of the personal stuff I've seen on peoples pages is not what I would want my clients to see.

While you're at it, you might as well grab a good Twitter name.  I just put up MyrtleBeachDigs on Twitter yesterday, and I already have close to a hundred followers.  (My personal one, MirelaMonte, has over 1,500 followers).  I can then direct traffic from Twitter to my Active Rain blog on various related subjects about what else...  but Real Estate in Myrtle Beach...

Why, Brian, you're not alluding to my bikini pictures, are you?

Yes, that is precisely why I have two Facebook accounts!

Transparency is the hot trend of the social media though...

I agree social media is here to stay and it will only evolve through the years. Thanks for the great blog. I had gotten a name a while ago but never used it maybe I should start.

Heather, the Vanity names just started at midnight this Friday (two days ago), so you may want to garner one now.

Mirela, I will go and look in a few. Thanks for the heads up. I am registered, but really am not using it much.

Mirela - I thought I was pretty darn smart for nabbing my name as it is much more common than I ever anticipated. I don't think I can handle a second account... social media is beginning to wear me down.

Go ahead, kick me in the butt with those roller blades over there on your sidebar! Do I really need a second Facebook account? All right, I thought of a name.... but do I really need a second Facebook account?

Judy, I will do no such thing!  It's probably OK to have only one, especially if you keep it a G rating.  I have one for the company, in order to position it properly.  I haven't done much with it yet, although I know I should.  I'm pretty transparent anyway and don't mind an occasional PG rating.  My clients, friends and associates know who I am and they don't mind either.

Andrea:  It's like brushing your teeth.  Just do it at least twice a day for about a minute or two.  You want to keep a social media presence.  It will go a long way for you.

I went and got my name yesterday and my first choice had already been taken.  It was about 9 AM on Saturday but I guess I missed the big rush at midnight.

I was part of the midnight rush crowd.  Of course, the two Margaritas I had consumed didn't help any.  That's how I ended up with the name: www.Facebook.com/MyrtleBeachReaEstate (it's missing the "L').  Check it out; it's still up; I'll put it to rest sometime this week.  Luckily I had a spare laying around, courtesy of my smart ex-assistant and although it took me an hour trying to figure out how to break into it (I didn't have the e-mail address she had entered or the pass code), I finally managed to get into it and acquire www.Facebook.com/MyrtleBeachHomes .  I lost my buzz in the process, but it was probably worth it: I just couldn't figure out how to explain to my clients how I had lost the L...

BTW, regarding the story above:  trying to just get a new facebook account did not work.  Only the seasoned accounts were allowed to obtain a vanity name.
