The Grand State of Missouri has a lot of really fine History and places to visit.

Higginsville was founded in 1869 by Harvey Higgins which the Town was named after.

In the Town of Higginsville, you'll find a 135 acre memorial park. I spent a lot of hours at this here park.

When you go to visit, you can spend many hours wandering through the 135 acre memorial park, it sure does have a lot of outdoor activities to enjoy. You can take your time strolling through the paark, you find some good fishing for Bass, Catfish, Blue Gills, and others, in the many small lakes, or you and your family can picnick in the shade of many fine old trees.

The Fight for Southern Independences may have ended in 1865, but vivid memories of the war lived on for decades at the Confederate Soldiers Home of Missouri. It first opened in the year of 1891, the Confederate Home provided refuge to more than 1,600 veterans and their families for nearly 60 years.

These veterans hailed from points throughout the South and served in every major battle of the war. There were foot soldiers, artillery and cavalrymen, guerilla fighters and even spies found a peaceful place to rest in their old age.

The last of the Confederate Soldiers living at the home. was John T. Graves, he died at the home in 1950 at the age of 108.

Folks visiting the Confederate Memorial State Historic Site can venture to the locations of the former home buildings and stroll through the restored 106 year old chapel and the historic cemetery.

Step lighty near this sacred spot,

and move with solemn tread,

For this is consecrated soil,

Where sleep our honored dead!

The sunlight shimmers through the boughs

Of shadowy forest trees,

Nature weeps here, her silent tears,

A requiem sighs the breeze,

When the tall grasses gently wave,

the wild flower lifts its head,

As if its tribute sweet,

to bring our Confederate dead...

(This poem was written by: Elizabeth Ustick McKinney, in 1894)

You are invted to visit and wake up to Missouri!

My loven Home State!

What a nice post Dale,  Such an historic site.  Thanks for sharing.  Let's pray we never have another war like that.  It has to be the worst one ever.

Howdy there Ricki

It sure is always a real pleasure to have you stop by to visit for a bit. And to read and reply back to one of your comments, on any one of the posts here at my little ole Blogging Homestead, my friend

Thank you kindly, it sure is a real fine historic site to visit. And a really peaceful one to just take ones time to walk around and think. The Fight for Southern Independences, sure was the worst war in American History. Thats for sure! I don't believe we'll have another one like it.

Thank you Dale for sharing this information. We have so much history here in the United States. I agree with Ricki; we must never forget so that we never have to experience something like that again.

I'm sorry and I sure don't knoe how I missed your comment on this post last night.

No we sure don't every want to have another war like this back in 1861. But it really started in the 1850's in my Grand State of Missouri, with the border war. Between Ks. and Mo.

One thing about Missourian's, we just don't like or put up with others tellen us what to do.
