We sometimes get confused by terms, many of which are thrown around by a media and politicians that have no clue about which they speak...!!!

First of all, WEALTH is necessary...BEFORE it can be taxed, redistributed, or reapportioned, it must exist, it must be created, and it must be accumulated...

You need to digest every word of that last sentence if you are to understand the concept I am trying to explain...!

Wealth isn't only money, personal belongings, or tangible assets...NO...WEALTH can be our TIME, TALENTS, and TREASURES...

In Scripture, the parable of the rich man describes how a certain 'rich' man is judged, not so much by how much he had, but by how well he used it...!

And that concept is key to a real understanding of the concept of wealth...

Ultimately WEALTH is truly a gift from God, and the man who rejoices in the fact that he is self made is truly foolish since no man has ever discovered how to take 'IT' with him...

Now, if you're reading this and you're looking for a formula to measure your own NET WORTH...it is simple...

Excluding your primary residence or principal home, total the monetary worth of everything you own, real and personal property...subtract from that figure the total of all your indebtedness (mortgages, loan balances, credit card balances, etc.)...The resulting figure is your NET WORTH...

So, you see, it's not how much you earn, or the amount of your cash flow, but how much you have managed to save...

Of course, outside the realm of FINANCE, and related from the standpoint of a Christian brother, The true Joy of the Lord is measured only by HIM, while it is experienced in its fullness by US...!!!

Whether poor or rich, Rejoice in the Lord always; again, I say Rejoice...and again, seek first the Kingdom of God...and all else will be added unto you...!!!

In essence, it's not about the god of wealth, it is about the Wealth Of God...!!!

Wealth is personal.  Very personal.  What is wealth to one is not wealth to another.  Excellent post.

Life, like finances, can carry debt. No matter what it always boils down to the "Net Worth"

If you can't spend it, it don't count. Cash flow dissappears, just ask GM, and Enron.

Fran, right now, I'm feeling a whole lot richer than a lot of people with ten times my net worth!  It's not just about money!

I took the time and personal sacrifice to be away from my family so I could go to school to better myself and our situation. I gathered wealth of knowledge that made it so I could live a better life, I am insulted that because I did that, so someone else could take my gain because they are to lazy to better their situation is just dang insulting to me for working hard. You want to make the divide between the lower and upper class bigger? Keep doing what your doing and the monetary rift will be nothing compared to the rift caused by the disgust the upper class will have for the lower class as they spend the upper classes money.

Patricia: Money is only one way to measure richness...money can't buy Joy which is a gift freely given to all who ask...!!!

TC: If you destroy the 20% that pay 90% of all taxes, you kill our economy...Perhaps that is the ultimate aim...!!!

Fran,

Too many people are under the false assumption that any material things actually belong to them. When you realize it is all God's anyway and we know he can take it back on a moments notice then we can start to realize what is really important.

                      Bless You

Great post Fran.  We of course aspire to be more like Jesus, but of course that will always be a work in progress.  Jesus told his disciples to give all their money to the poor and follow him, to share with one another, and to lead humble lives, honoring only God.  We can all aspire to that, but how many of us can actually live it?
