I am Back! "But we didn't even know that you were gone, Jason."

I took a brief hiatus from the internet starting on Friday.  Yes, I was away from all things online for about 48 hours, and yet I lived through it.  :)

My wife and I took our kiddos to San Antonio for the weekend, primarily so that we could visit the Texas Folklife Festival on Saturday.  My wife is from that area, and she has very fond memories of this event stemming back to her childhood.  We went 3 years ago (with a different infant daughter in tow), but we hadn't been back since.

I would have made some great video of the event to share, but my camera melted in my pocket at around 3pm or so.  Later, I learned that it was 104 DEGREES that afternoon.

Thanks to Expedia.com, we were able to stay at the Airport Hilton and we got a phenomenal deal, which was supremely helpful, considering that we now need TWO hotel rooms just to accomodate the Crouch family.  This makes me seriously consider purchasing an RV in the near future.  I am not joking.

On Friday night, we went to the Magic Time Machine, which is one of my older kids' favorite restaurants in the world.  I DO have video of our evening there, which I hope to share with you sometime this week.  In a nutshell, the kids love it (okay, I do, too) because everyone who works there is in full costume.  Our waiter was Indiana Jones, although the guy dressed as Captain Jack Sparrow from "Pirates of the Caribbean" was probably the most talented one there.

I actually considered using the wireless service at the Hilton, until realizing that it was $10/day.  It wasn't the money - it was the principle!  Is it them or me?  It's them, right?!?

At any rate, I am happy to be back online tonight, although I must admit that the break was much-needed, and I hope to take some more mini-vacations in the near future (or maybe even a real one sometime?).

Thanks for your kind and funny comments.  I wondered the same thing as Kim above - every other hotel we have frequented in Texas did not make us pay a dime for wireless access.  I think the more upscale places "nickel and dime" you for every extra item.

San Antonio is beautiful in the downtown and Riverwalk area. And I completely understand the "brief hiatus"! I've just been so busy the last couple of days, I just got a couple of comments in. I felt like I was doing something wrong. I couldn't stand not having enough time for everything! Even now I'm exhausted  o.o

Good for you Jason!! I'm sure your wife and children LOVED having you all to themselves with no business distractions!!  Gotta love those hotels.  We went to Sea World last year, and as we arrived in our hotel...there was the refreshing bottled water that we had to warn the kids NOT TO OPEN...or we'd be charged for it on our room ticket.  :)  Good thing we had an ice chest full!!

Sonja - They had the bottled water in our room, too.  It was $2.50 per bottle if we opened it.  We hid it in the top of the closet.

Welcome back Jason! Sometimes you need to step away from the computer and not care what happens until you get back. We'll still be here for you. Hope SA was a good time. We are actually planning on taking a trip in July or so. Perhaps we can all get together on the way through. Would love to meet you and the family (although I feel I know some of them pretty well from your blog).

It is my understanding that there are more than a few recession deals on RVs right now. Someone recently mentioned to me that they couldn't afford the tags and the home on wheels still had the new car smell.

Jason, glad you enjoyed the mini-vacation. I laughed about the wireless access at the hotel as your higher end ones charge for it, yet you can park your car with WiFi near the cheap hotels and pick it up for free. I have the Aircards too so those hotels don't bother me anymore, and then the new iPhone will eventually have the tethering capability to the laptop. Those high end fees will be a thing of the past soon.

LOL at your camera melting (well, forgive me, but it IS funny lol).  I hear you about the wifi!  Sometimes it's not $10, it's $12 ... it's even worse when you are overseas. I was staying in a hotel in Bonn, Germany and it was $12 EUROS yikes LOL ... that's like a million dollars LOL   Glad to have you back!

Good for you for getting away for a few days with the family.  And you were smart not to let people know you'd be away or your blog probably would have been hijacked.... LOL

Jason--welcome back as many others have said.  Try taking a day off from internet even though you are home and your computer is in the other room.  Such a Liberating feeling.  Try it you may like it!

I love San Antonio as well as Austin, but for now it is Erie, PA which is great during the summer months.

Hi Jason,

Glad to hear you took a break! I'm sure your family had a great time and what memories for the kids. You were smart to captured some of the festivities on Video! Will look forward to seeing them.

"but my camera melted in my pocket at around 3pm or so.  Later, I learned that it was 104 DEGREES that afternoon."

I thought you were kidding.

"it was the principle!  Is it them or me?  It's them, right?!?"

It is them.  I refuse to take clients to Starbucks because I would have to pay for wireless.  I go to Panera where it is free.

"(or maybe even a real one sometime?)."

Go for the long one, you deserve it and won't regret it.

Betina - I have lived in Texas my entire life - I know it gets hot.  The hard part is having 4 kiddos and not enough shade!

Your blog reminds me of an email I received several years back making fun of the summer weather in Texas.  I recently moved away from Texas and was in Houston this past weekend.  I had forgotten how hot it is!!  I only had three kids in tow and I thought the rubber of my sandals was going to mix with the blacktop parking lot of our hotel.

I look forward to reading more of your blogs soon - good to have you back.

Jason,

If you buy an RV I want a picture of it. Your face on the side with that thumbs up would be perfect! Yeah!
