A number of you have accepted my offer to connect with me on LinkedIn. Now I am able to help them leverage my 2.5 million member network.

Leigh Bates was the first to send me a list of large employers in her area. The tutorial that follows is a demonstration of how I searched my personal network on Leigh's behalf.

Follow along and you will learn how to get much more from your LinkedIn connections.

TUTORIAL

Leigh sent me a list of large employers in her area.  I started by searching only on one company name, "American Airlines".

So what have we learned from this tutorial?

  • How to use LinkedIn's search feature
  • Careful search and analysis of personal networks can lead to very powerful networking connections.
  • LinkedIn provides free Introduction support
  • LinkedIn provides paid InMail direct contact capabilities
  • Google can uncover many other ways to reach target contacts; it can also provide additional background information on your contacts.

OK, so we've demonstrated how we can help get you to many of the best possible people to have in your relocation referral network; BUT DON'T MAKE ANY CONTACTS JUST YET. Why? Because you only get one chance to make a good first impression.

Be sure to read my next post which will be an interview with a highly experienced, senior level executive/technical recruiter.

You're going to want to use the insight from this interview to help you be sure that you have all your "ducks-in-a-row" before you start making these crucial referral contacts.

Any questions???

Sincerely,

Ray Cobel

P.S. My offer is still open to connect with me on LinkedIn.

Ray,

Great information.  I have been a member of Linkedin but not used it anywhere to the potential you show.  Just need a few more hours in the day...

Hi Jon, thanks for your compliment, and I'm looking forward to connecting with you too!

How I make it all make sense?  I don't really know; guess it's magic.  All I know is that my specialty seems to be bringing order out of chaos.   :>)

do you use deli.cio.us?  If not, you could create an Active Rain bookmark tag to share all of the great links...

ok... I'll admit, the post was a little overwhelming at first. I'm really bad about scrolling down to see how long something is before I dive in! But it didn't take anytime at all to figure out - and I'm sold! I even learned a few other neat tricks. Thanks for taking the time to do this-I'm SOLD!

Ray, I have been a member of LinkedIn for some time now, but never really used it much.  How do you use it?  Are able to build a relationship thru this source or how do you use LinkedIn?  By the way, you did a very nice job on the tutorial.  Thank you.

Hi David, you've asked a very good question.  So good, in fact, the answer has inspired me to write another Blog post.  Follow me there.

I've been a member for a long time, but haven't used it. I've received requests to link, but discarded most of them, thinking that they wanted me to join, which I already have. Thanks for the additional information.

Hi Sharon,

I see by your Profile (180 Associations) that you certainly have developed your networking skills.

LinkedIn's feature to add:

  1. Your own first level contacts,
  2. Then automatically add all of their first level contacts
  3. Plus add all of their second level's first level contacts

makes it like networking on steroids.  So I hope you start accepting those invitations.

My offer is still open for anyone who would like to link with me.
