Today is indeed a sad day for all the teenager boys of yesteryear who grew up with The Ventures music. Bob Bogle, one of the two founding members of the group passed away yesterday on June 14, 2009. For those of you who might not immediately recognize the name, I’m sure you will recognize them for their surf music and the instrumental hit that made them famous – “Walk Don’t Run”. They are also easily recognized for their later hit – “Hawaii 50”.
Here is a video featuring Bob Bogle featuring one of his medleys:
Many guitarists like George Harrison (The Beatles), John Fogerty (Credence Clearwater Revival), Carl Wilson (the Beach Boys), Jeff Cook (Alabama), Keith Moon (The Who) and many more were influenced by The Ventures music. I have to add one other person to the list, myself. The first time I heard “Walk Don’t Run”, I knew I had to have a guitar. I saved up my money, bought a guitar, purchased their albums which I still have and continue to play music today. I would say they were a huge influence on me.
For their success as the number one instrumental group, The Ventures were recognized and inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on March 10, 2008. The Ventures have been making music for the last fifty years and their legacy will continue to live on. Bob Bogle will be missed.

Hi Toula: Since being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, their fan base with the younger generation has spread. I think their music will live on. Thanks.
Morning Michael.....Now I know you play guitar, it's amazing what comes out in a post. There are many accomplished musicians on A|R, you guys could start "Band Bloggers" or something...LOL Have a great weekend, Happy Fathers Day :-)
Michael, I was in high school when I listened to the Ventures. My favorites were "Blue Moon" and "Secret Agent Man" It saddens me when i hear of someone from the 50"s and 60"s that have passed away, At least we will always have them with us in continuing to play their music. I did not know you were a guitarist. That is terrific. You will have to perform on a video and put it up on AR for us to enjoy one of our own AR members.
Kathleen: I also liked "Blue Moon" and "Secret Agent Man". Since The Ventures are the number one instrumental group in the world, I'm sure their music will last. I may do that video one day. Thanks for the visit.
Michael, great post. I was not familiar with Bob Bogle but you are right, I had heard his music. Sad to hear of his passing. I am passing along this video to my 13 year old nephew, he, as yourself is bigtime into guitars and has been getting pretty good at it; I am sure he'll enjoy this awesome guitarist.
Michael, Thanks for the information. I didn't know him by name, but was a huge fan for many years. I'm surprised you didn't mention the Mosrite brand of guitar when thinking of the Ventures. I remember first connecting with them in 1965. My collection was stolen, but for many years I would buy each of their new albums. And weren't those sweaters they wore on the covers cool?! I will certainly have their tunes in my head in his memory. Thank you again - I would have had to wait for my next copy of Rolling Stone to arrive to know about his passing were it not for you.
Jim: You're welcome! I guess I didn't mention the Mosrite brand because I'm from the Fender era when they made their initial albums. Thanks for the visit.
Michael--I was scrolling through your recent posts and found this one. Yes, I remember the music, but I didn't remember his name. As someone else said in their comment we learn so much about each other here at AR in addition to real estate related 'stuff' such as you have a guitar and still play. I grew up in the 60's, did not play music like you did, but I love to hear the old songs.
Hi Michael ~ Boy - June was a bad month - so many people who made big impressions on us passed away.
We still chuckle about the year I got a guitar for Christmas - I think I was 11. It was just about the only present I got. I learned my lesson - I like lots of presents! - and ever after - even to this day - I make a wish list with lots of little presents.
