As a former New Yorker who moved to the Raleigh area many years ago, some of the things I thought I'd miss about my old stomping grounds were the abundance of museums, cultural activities and great restaurants.
Despite the fact that it took me a little while to find good sushi (we have it now!) and decent pizza (got that too!), the area commonly known as the Triangle has grown into a place where just about anything can be found.
Recently the New York Times (yes, I still read it daily) ran an article in the travel section exposing the happy medium between our "slow paced Southern charm and our urban cool."

From museums, to great places to have a cold frosty beverage, to places to catch a great band, the article does a wonderful job of giving a glimpse of the Raleigh/ Durham/ Chapel Hill area...and an even better job of reminding me why I moved here in the first place.

I travel a lot and I know that many people I encountered thought that my hometown of Houston was covered with tumbleweeds and cattle. The reality is Houston is the home to many art galleries, symphony, and a little space project called NASA. There are many lovely metropolitan cities all over this great country. The big apple is not the only bastion of civilization. I am glad to see so many exciting and cultural things to do in NC. Kudos!
