DC here we come, or so we thought!

All started out well as we left home full of excitement about driving down to DC in our 40 foot motor home. You may have read Jay's post about our DC adventure let me give you a womans take on it. Before you read this you should reads Jay's just so you can compare our stories. Plus Jay has more of the gruesome details...

We left home a few hours earlier than we had planned on Friday May 11th, which was a very good thing as I would have really panicked being broken down on the highway at night. As it was we broke down during the beginning of rush hour on one of the most notorious highways in Massachusetts. Not to worry though help was on the way. I wait patiently and finally HELP arrived.

As cars screamed by us my husband and the mobile mechanic guy played around with our engine...which is  a big ugly thing located in the rear of our motor home. I was nervous about them being hit by the maniac Massachusetts drivers...who never slowed down while passing us.  We're not over insured so it would of been a nightmare to say the least!

Long story short they could not fix us up at all, so 2 hours later my huge 33,000 pound motor home is being towed to a truck repair center.

We climb in the tow truck and I watch out the rear window to make sure my motor home was okay. I was afraid that it would break free and take off on us...it was very traumatic

We arrive at the repair place, they're not real happy to see us. In fact I really felt unwelcome.  They diddle with a computer that they attached to the motor home to try and figure out our problem. Eventually the problem is diagnosed.

We want to sleep in our motor home as it seems they won't be able to touch us till the morning, they don't want us to but after some discussion back and forth they allow us to sleep in our rig on their lot. They were afraid we'd pee in their parking lot like some truckers do but we have a lovely  working bathroom why would we want to pee outside???

I warm up some left overs for dinner and make myself a double Black Russian. I promised myself that I would not cry!  We eat and drink sitting in some huge truck repair place with the smell of diesel fuel and the hum of the big engines owned by the company. It was not romantic and I'll admit I kept looking for peeing truckers but saw none. I started to cry despite my resolve to be strong.

About 30 minutes later the mechanic came and told us they can work on it after all, but we would need to leave the motor home as they need to pull it into the garage. We were excited and I was feeling pretty good probably due to alcohol consumption.

We spent the night sleeping in big leather chairs in a truckers lounge. It was noisy and lit up like a Christmas tree...Jay fell asleep immediately but I stayed awake all night long. Eventually we were joined by a trucker who wanted to catch some sleep. Here I was trying to sleep in a room with two guys...not fun!

The morning brings bad news...they would not be able to fix us till Monday!!! I knew that would happen.

We call on friends, Mike and Judy Tuscano who went to my house and got my SUV to drive it down to us. They are good friends who drop what they are doing to help us out! We in our wisdom had decided not to pull/tow a car as we would be using the Metro in DC.

They help us carry our belonging loaded in garbage bags to my SUV. When you travel with your own closets you don't think to bring suitcases...garbage bags don't really work that well but we had no other choice!

We hustle, I empty the refrigerator and we drive down to DC. Lucky for us we have more good friends, Bill and Nada Marth who insist that we stay in their house.  We took them up on their very kind offer but felt badly that we were imposing on them and their friendship. We arrive at their home at about 7 pm on that Saturday night to a waiting hot dinner and awesome potent drinks. Considering we left home at about 2:30 on Friday afternoon I was very happy to have finally arrived at the Marth residence!! We spend Sunday relaxing as best we could.

On Monday I leave to take the all day required REBAC instructor recertification. Jay hangs and chills out.

On Tuesday we both need to be at the conference early...we dress in work clothes and Jay can't find his pants...anywhere!

He has his dress shirts, his sports jackets but is missing all his neatly pressed long pants. He looks at me...did I leave them behind?  I remind him that I did not pack him up...maybe HE left them behind!

He took all his clothes he insists! We tear apart all the garbage bags, look everywhere but no long pants to be found.  They simply are not there! I couldn't resist taking this picture of Jay standing on our friends front steps...pant less!

Our DC adventure!!! We need to catch the Metro and my husband has no pants. He didn't even have a pair of dress shorts with him!

I try and convince him to put on his Tevas and go in his gym shorts.

What a time! Can't wait for my next trip to turn out the same way. NOT. I can only imagine the horrors of attempting to sleep in a truckers lounge, unless of course the truckers looked like this!

There again, I probably wouldn't be able to sleep either.

Oh my!  Poor Jay and Monika!  I can empathize with you on the "you are a big boy and need to pack your own stuff" conversation!

LOL...Dennis! The truckers did not look like that-Trust me! It was very loud all night long. I think truckers sleep through anything! me I need it dark and quiet.

Renee...It was pretty funny watching Jay look for his pants. He left them behind in the motor home closet...so they at least left home with us originally.

Joan...Wouldn't that be funny!!! Jay would die LOL!

Ines...Jay did pull up one sock...for drama! Dress shorts they absolutely exist. He wears them golfing all the time.  They look just like dress slacks only short :)

Well this is another big story for the camp fires of the future. Hopefully you will get past the awful feelings and be able to laugh with us. Your camping life is like "a series of unfortunate events" yet the people are what makes it all worth while. Love you guys and am so glad to be a part of your adventures. Thank God Nada knows how to make a great drink:) and Jay has such picturesque legs:)

Thats funny George! I was afraid the truckers would pee near my motor home LOL or on my tires or something! Trip home was uneventful and we went to Boothbay Harbor last weekend without an issue.

Poor Jay he is a bit bow legged!p
