End of Your RopeTame the Tension

What is it that helps you Lower your Level of Stress? How do you get balance in life and relief from the tensions of the day?  Look over this list of strategies and rate them on a scale from 1 to 5 with a 5 being your agreement to set this as a priority and a 1 having no interest.

  1. Be on time to your appointments.  Allow a 15 minute cushion.
  2. Avoid procrastination.  Tackle the tasks that cause you the most pain at the beginning of the day so you end the day on a positive note.
  3. Trash the little things that are broken.  Get rid of them and replace them so they don't aggravate you.
  4. Keep your gas tank full (this may be difficult with current prices!!)  Try to keep it above a quarter tank.
  5. Prepare for the next day the night before.  Set out your clothes, update your planner with the tasks for the next day, plan your day in advance.
  6. Get up 15 minutes earlier than normal so you aren't rushed.Time Management
  7. Eliminate or decrease your daily cup of java (caffeine).
  8. Breathe deeply twice each hour.
  9. Use time management by catching up on calls or other business while you are waiting for an appointment.
  10. Carry a PDA (personal digital assistant) or planner with you.  Enter your tasks and appointments to allow you to stay on track.
  11. Learn from your experiences and live with them.  Try to avoid being too hard on yourself.
  12. Practice preventative maintenance on your car, home, and office to prevent bigger expenses later.
  13. Have several sets of identical keys made and available.
  14. Be Thankful.  In everything you do, Give Thanks!  There are lots of reasons why we can be thankful.  Just look around an observe those less fortunate than you.
  15. Do something nice for someone else!  You will feel better for it and they will too!

Now total your score.  Where do you rate?

  • 69-75 too organized, get a life!
  • 49-68 you are sensible in your accomplishments
  • 30-48 your life may not change
  • 20-29 are your ready for a change?
  • 00-19 hmmm, what can we do for you?

RelaxJust kidding, don't put yourself under the stress!  If you can implement one or two of these items, then you will make a difference.  Later you can come back and review them again and make other adjustments for improvements!

David, I like the one about keeping the gas tank full. I can't tell you the stress I've given myself racing to a listing appointment realizing that it is totally possible I could run out of gas any minute. Should I take the time to run in a service station and end up late or forge ahead! I usually go on fumes so I'm not late but one day I'm going to go to the car to leave and not be able to leave!

David,

That's a solid list. I especially like 5, 11 and 14. I'm getting pretty good at 5 and improving on 11.

Sandra, it is definitely worth not running out!  I haven't run out, but I have had a flat tire that made me late for my next appointment.  Thanks for commenting.
