Since I like to do a lot of my daily work in the wee hours of the morning, and since I'm somewhat of a fiscal conservative but social liberal, I like to watch "Morning Joe" on MSNBC with ultra-conservative Joe Scarborough had his more liberal sidekick Mika Brzezinski and the neutral Willie Geist. It is on from 3:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. Pacific Time.
After "Morning Joe," I'll either go swimming, for a long walk, or watch a little of the early morning news and breaking news on MSNBC. This morning, Carlos Watson was interviewing a Capt. Wes Moore.
Capt. Moore was kicked out of school for vandalism at the age of 12 and sent to a military academy. Ten years later, he graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Johns Hopkins University, was named a Rhodes Scholar in 2000, joined the Army and did a tour of duty in Afghanistan, was promoted to Captain, won a White House Fellowship, and became an investment banker. He's only 30.
Capt. Moore is currently writing a book about two Wesley Moores, both the same age, both from Baltimore, and both of them winding up on opposite sides of life. One, of course, is Capt. Moore. The other is a Wesley Moore currently serving a life term in prison for killing a police officer during a robbery.
One of the things that caught my attention during the interview was something that Capt. Moore's mother said to him:
Before people will care what you think, they have to think that you care.
Capt. Moore truly is an inspiration and, in my mind, is far more of a hero and role model than any sports star, movie star, or recording star could ever hope to be. And don't even get me started on Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, Lindsey Lohan, etc.

Thank you for sharing this! I watched the interview and it was very inspirational. When we change the way we look at things the things we look at change. This guy is great!
Someone is PUMPED! It must have been a great interview, wished we'd seen it. We know you will be getting the book as soon as it comes out, will be watching for it too. BTW tried to send you John Foggerty's song Big Black Limousine, but couldn't find it...know its not the Beatles but think you'd like it
Hey, Nannette - One of the reason why I watch both conservative and liberal stuff, why I'm a registered Republican who often votes Democratic, why I visit the ActiveRain blogs of people with whom I have philosophical differences, etc. If I don't change the way I look at things, perhaps they will. At the very least, both of us can learn things.
Hey, Tony and Darcy - Mothers (and wise old grandmothers) are quite often right. Maybe if we put some mothers and grandmothers in Washington....
Hey, Mike - I rarely get interrupted by the phone, though. I'm leaving for a walk as soon as I finish this long comment.
Hey, Harry - The news channels usually don't bring me much inspirational news, but in this case they did.
Hey, Sharon - Imagine how hard it was for that Mother to send her 12-year-old son off to the military academy. She obviously knew what she was doing in order to get the best for her son.
Hey, Al and Peggy - You can click on the link in my post and watch the interview. It's only about 3½ minutes long, but you'll also have to watch the 30-second commercial - LOL. There's a price to pay for everything, I guess. I thought I had all of John Fogerty's music, but I don't have "Big Black Limousine." I'm wondering if you're thinking of "Big Train (From Memphis)," which I do have. It's from his "Centerfield" album.
Russel, I kept thinking of the old saying "The Apple doesn't fall far from the tree." I'd have to think great children come from wonderful parents! It's a wonderful story.
Hey, Carole - I think I've pretty much decided that great children come from love AND discipline, regardless of who is providing that love AND discipline. In my case, it was my wise old grandmother. Without her giving me love AND discipline, I'd either be dead at the hands of a law enforcement officer or spending life in prison somewhere.
Hey Russel, have tried and tried to send you John Fogerty's "Big Black Limousine" its on his "Revival" CD that came out in 2007. Couldn't find it on youtube...so we downloaded the CD to our computer to send to you, but when we try to find it to send to you, can't find it! UGGGHHHH!
Eureka! Found it! It works better if you use the correct information. The song is called "It Ain't Right" on the Revival CD. So finally, drum roll please, here it is!
Doesn't he have a distinctive voice! You can tell I like It Ain't Right, Al's favourite is "Gunslinger".... and we both have "Can't Take It No More" as our second. Oh hey, we like the whole CD!
