Who are you blogging TO ?
by Kaushik Sirkar, Chandler AZ REALTOR
Chandler Arizona Real Estate

Why do folks blog, or more specifically, blog about Real Estate?  Establish their expertise in a transparent medium?  Have a forum in which to express themselves freely?  Convince consumers/readers that they are the best Realtor/Lender/Professional to use?  I'm sure all of these and then some come into play.

One can tell quite a bit about a person based on their blogging style(s) and/or content.  Brian Brady may just be one of the most knowledgeable 'money' people out there.  Karen George knows a heck of a lot about SEO.  George Souto is one heck of an ethical guy.  Kristal Kraft may know more about Denver then..oh say a random 16 other Colorado natives...combined!  I've never met Maggie Dokic, but I'll bet a few bux that she is as genuine and honest a person as one will find in this industry.  These are just a few examples.

But just because I find out about a person/professional doesn't necessarily mean that they were blogging towards ME.

Look, AR is a VERY UNIQUE platform and a good portion of the 'uniquity' is driven by the point structure.  At some level, the more points one acquires, the higher a ranking that person gets and consequently more exposure to potential consumers.  I think this occurs by two means....and I think some people sway to one side, others to the opposite end of the spectrum, and yet others fall somewhere in the middle.

I think some of us blog TO other professionals.  Others in the industry are our target audience.  Those of us feel the need to be perceived as experts by our peers.  We want other agents/lenders/professionals contacting us with questions.  This establishes 'us' as a true authority.

I think others still blog TO the consumer directly.  Market information, area information, tips for homebuyers or sellers.  What to do, what not to do, what to watch out for.

ME?  I'm guilty.  I believe I fall somewhere in the gray area between these two styles of blogging.  I love talking to consumers, I love talking to other professionals.  And I definitely enjoy hearing back from both.

What about YOU?  Who are you 'talking to' when you blog??

Thanks for Reading :)

My main emphasis is blogging to consumers.  Though I have to say I am beginning to warm up to blogging to other professionals.  I have gained so much from the people (and more) that you have mentioned that I would like to give back in any way I can.

How about pretending I'm stepping into everyone's shoes ...member, consumers whoever....and if I'm writing from the inside out I believe it's being taken in just as well...So, in answer to your question...everybody!

I, like you have much to contribute to both the professional and the consumer. That said, I owe myself the making of a serious effort to impress upon the IEC ( Internet Empowered Consumer) that I would welcome consultation with them and provide a comprehensive real estate service based on experience, knowledge, passion and a genuine appreciative nature of my clients as human beings. Real Estate is and has been my chosen career for a lot of years and one that I have invested all my resources in, ( time , life and $$). I have a profound respect that I am asking to earn a profit on that investment. I have no shame in seeking the best life I can attain, be it spiritually , physically or materially and/or all of those, not necessarily in that order. I think capitalism is ( at least most of the time it can be)  an honorable institution.

PS, If I were interviewing with you for employment, I would still like my answer. It is the love and passion of a fabulous career.

Good post.  Truth is we're blogging to whomever we feel like talking to today.  Sometimes it's ourselves :)

In my writinig, I am always true to myself. In other words, I write how I am, not what I want others to believe I am. I also try to maintain a balance between writing topics oriented to my professional peers, and to potential consumer clients.

I am in your camp.  I try to do both.  I like building my community posts, while I really enjoy exchanging ideas with other professionals.

I don't always have time in my day to share my experience directly with my staff.  I have found that blogging has given me a great opportunity to post helpful hints and share past experiences that I have learned from so that my staff can learn from them, too.  This has also given me an opportunity to connect on a personal level with our agent clients.

Two parties: Realtors and other real estate professionals because I like to get their point of view. Also consumers for localism. I want them to realize I know my community.

Ray - I was like you, initially gearing my posts more towards professionals.  After some time, I shifted part of my focus to localism!

Chris - Sounds like we started in different areas and are headed to the same point!

Sally - I don't think one can go wrong writing from the "inside"

William - There is nothing wrong with making a living/career.  When that career lines up with one's passion, thats a great thing!

Ardell - Indeed ... we just want to hear ourselves once in a while :)

Rich - Your first point is the key.  Be who you really are...write who you really are....

Randy - Keep at em'...I for one enjoy reading your posts!

Beth - Aha, a unique viewpoint.  Other professionals....consumers...and now its staff/team members!

Steven - Who do you get more of your business from?  Realtors, or individuals?  From strictly the $$ side that might be the direction to focus on, no?

I do both as well.  I love showing things on Localism for places I've been to but love to exchange information and indeas with Activerainers.  It's a wonderful forum to do both.

As a loan officer, I've been targeting realtors and the general public thru AR.  AR does a fantastic job of listing our postings with google and others.  I post a mixture of information about loans and some ads directly to the ADS section only.

Kaushik, I have two or three groups that I'm usually aiming for, but my ideas come first.  Only then do I mark where to to send them.

Kaushik, in the beginning it was for point to move-up, later I recognized the value of using the medium for consumer awareness, and then added some professional comments the would help personal growth based on the answers received back....now I have graduated to doing whatever crosses my mind.  The group will have to sort it out.

Rough estimate of my posts, 80% to consumers, 20% to REALTORS, and 0% to lenders, stagers, inspectors and other providers of anciliary services.

Hey Kaushik,

Great topic for a blog. I blogg to both consumers and to Active Rainers. Most of the time they are very separate blogs.

Kaushik, I have blogged to both those audiences, but in both cases it is to prived information that I hope they will find useful. However, I have had a handfull of blogs that probably do not fit into any catagory, and are just off topic things.

Kaushik,

The beauty of blogging is we can have a variety of audiences. Having just one listener can get old!  AR is a good example of that, we have several channels; consumers, each other and ourselves.

Thanks for the mention!

Kaushik, thanks for the beautiful words about me.  So sorry I'm late getting here.  I find myself blogging to my peers a lot of the time.  I think I'm having too much fun in the Rain and forgetting that I'm blogging for business.  I guess things could be worse. =)

Maggie - No problem!  True, sometimes we forget who the REAL audience can be, LOL.

Kristal - Very true...shall we call it, diversified blogging??

George - Off topic is good also, in my opinion.  It shows even a bit more about who 'you' really are.

Tina - There is certainly nothing wrong with separating who one blogs to per blog...

Larry - Its great that you know what your breakdown is!

Gary - Sounds like we've taken a similar path...

Brian - Yup!

Tim - If you crack yourself up...hopefully you are also cracking up some consumers out there!

Brian - Great point.  Write first.  Then appropriately designate after...I certainly do this as well.

Tom - Please notify us if it starts blogging back, LOL

Ethan - Makes sense for a LO to blog to realtors in my book...
