Blue Laws

By
Real Estate Agent with McKinney Realty of Aiken

As seen in this weeks Aiken Standard, once again the county will take a look at the Blue Laws which currently govern what can and can't be sold on Sundays before 1:30 pm in Aiken County.  Beer can be purchased at almost any gas station but building supplies, clothing, etc can not be purchased.  It seems like if nothing else there needs to be an overhaul of the blue laws.

The county will decide in July.

I kind of wish we had blue laws again.  Nothing seems to be sacred anymore and the pursuit of the dollar has disappointed many.

Prohibition did not work in the past and only lead to greater problems. While the sale of alcohol may be offensive to some, stopping the sale will only lead to bootlegging.

What is accomplished by stopping the sale of building supplies or clothing?

It may be a good idea in some ways, but the negatives may outweigh the positives of blue laws.

Hi KT:

In NJ, the only major thing that can't be purchased is a vehicle, which also means mobile homes for us.
