US OPEN in Bethpage Long Island NY 2009—Photos
These are some other shots Laura Cerrano of Feng Shui Manhattan was able to capture on Friday at Bethpage State Park in Long Island NY. With nothing but rain expected for the next few days (accompanied by HEAVY rain and colder temperatures), I suspect even if you are on the Golf Course these might be the best views you’ll get.

What is it about having the US Open on Long Island and rain? This feels like a repeat of the 2002 US Open. My hints for attending the Open?

Getting ready to film...he needed way more protection in the driving rains we had today!

In spite of the many tents, they had to close the event early today.
- Dress warm; we are having April temperatures in JUNE.
- Don’t leave home without an umbrella (or two!)
-
Watch where you park! Farmingdale Village has been having what is called a “ticketing blitz” and although signs are posted, you have to look all the way UP to see them. Laura and I both got tickets the first week we moved back to Farmingdale in January!
- Places you might like to try for great food:
Krisches in Massapequa (one town over). Krisches is a New York Institution known for its homemade Ice Cream, Pies, Chocolate and the absolute BEST hamburgers anywhere! It is a true old-time confectionary store that has been around forever and, I suspect, will stay around forever. It would be a shame to leave Long Island without stopping in the treasure in Massapequa, NY.
HRS Singleton’s in Bethpage: A somewhat more upscale yet still casual restaurant where you are greeted every night by the owner. Formerly called “No Bananas” this restaurant was ALWAYS good. Its close and you’re assured a great meal.
If you like Chinese Food, Kwong Ming in Wantagh has also been around forever. Newsday aggress with me on this one, they have unparalleled Chinese Food that never tastes like “take-out” -- even if it is!
Dominico’s in Levittown Long Island. Hidden in a corner of a shopping market and right next to Brittany Beauty School (one of my old schools : ), it looks outside like any other Pizza Place. Take a walk into the back and visit the restaurant for some wonderful Italian dishes I’ve tried for years to recreate at home (but never have).
ALL of these places have Good Feng Shui! They’d have to as they’ve lasted so long and remained consistently GOOD.
Here's a few more shots from Friday....Cloudy but not the horrendous rain we had today!

The Oak Room....Fine Dining Inside the newly renovated clubhouse.

I do hear some are stopping to sign autographs after the 18th hole. I have also read that New Yorkers who play this course often have given welcomed advice to the players of the US Open.

We ALL hope for better weather tomorrow!

Carole - In spite of the weather which I hope gets better over the weekend, the US Open never keep those die hard golf fans away and it looks like they've got some top notch places to eat too. Laura caught some pretty great shots!
Carole, I hate to hear that the event had to be shut down early. Love the shots that Laura got though!
Hi Carole,
Rain or not, Laura is having too much fun! :-)
Well it's not raining on the wonderful photo parade! I'd love some of that cool weather for hotlanta area!
Maybe it was a miserable day, but the photographer certainly seems to be having a good time. Someone has a fan. :))
The weather here is just as miserable.
And I've wanted to see Massapequa, ever since I heard the name on that movie with Hugh Jackman and Meg Ryan. :) (I can't even think of the name of the movie right now, but I can remember exactly what Hugh looked like LOL) :)
This is exceptional work by Laura Carole. I wish I could be there weather or not!!
Too bad the weather is not cooperating. Thanks for giving us an "up close" look at this event. We will keep our fingers crossed for some June weather.
We had 1/5" of rain today...the event was closed by 10:15 AM and they have renamed the place to BETHPAGE LAKE STATE PARK :) This event may go on until Wednesday because of the weather. Unbelieveable!
Georgina, We are supposed to get breaks of sun....it's not looking very good, honestly. How sad, we heard some of the people were just miserable.
Donna, Laura was there at a good day, I was excited with her photos. And just caught them in between the rains we've been having.
Sandy, Thank you. These shots were from Friday....today it was closed so early and people had to bring extra shoes and socks....many people stopped and bought BOOTS!
Cynthia, I keep telling her that same thing! Don't worry, she's working at night and her site will go live soon :)
Mara, I can do the heat, I can't take this weather....50 degrees? I still have my heat on :( Trade ya.....
Sylvie, I can't think of what movie was filmed in Massapequa except one great one about a Vietnam Veteran who became disabled returning home....If anyone can think of the name of these movies, please just in :) Got it: BORN ON THE FOURTH OF JULY. I'll have to rry and find your movie!
Gary, You'd be drowning. Some people that were allowed to park on the grounds got stuck in the mud and had to be towed away...it was torrential today!
Love the pics Carole- especially of the Oak Room..........and the Cameraman under the awning...mmmm Oh and the movie Sylvie - is Kate and Leopold - I loved that flick :-)
Yesterday was a horrible day here too. I can't imagine being on a golf course, you would need wading boots! Today we are possibly going to pull out a dry day, only a 20 % chance of showers. Hope your weather is the same or better than ours.
I am sorry about the weather. Thanks for the pictures.
hi Carole,
Laura really got some unique photos.....she'd be an excellent reporter (actually, the two of you together make an excellent team with her photos and your writing).
We're having cool, wet weather here too....I'll be so glad when summer finally arrives. ((-:
Jo
Hi Carole, my husband was all set to watch this yesterday but was disappointed when it was called because of rain. I think I could see myself in the 'Oak Room' enjoying an adult beverage nestled on their cozy high back chair ;)
Liz, Today is better and now they are trying to cram as much golf in as possible to try and catch up! I ate in the Oak Room once, it was fabulous :)
Paddy, You called it right, many were wearing boots. The store that has sneakers had a crowd to get in.....and it's supposed to rain this afternoon, tomorrow and Sunday :(
Gita, You and I both...I probably would have walked there as I had some time yesterday.
Jo, She was SO excited to come home with them! She is just starting to work two jobs (camp and personal training) and her site will be live soon.....I get the writing :)
Cynthia, I wanted to list some wonderful places to eat for the tourists; they didn't have much to do besides go back to their hotels and try to dry off! So many people paid so much money and I don't believe they're giving refunds for the day.
Sounds like my mom. She golfs in anything lol. Good luck with better golfing weather and thanks to your friends for the peek into Black Course and the grounds.
Carole - thanks for sharing these great photos. That is too bad about the rain there this week. I would love to play the Black course.
Watched highlights on espn - Jeff & I need to get out & golf more this season in NW IN LOL - your daughter took great photos Carole! Too bad about the rain - this tourney may go on into midweek if this continues.
Sincerely,
Grace
Sally, I wonder if they're ever going to have an Open here again. Every time they come to Long island, it rains and rains! We've got some heavy clouds today, more rain expected.
Mike, Laura had a great time getting them. I feel sorry for not only the golfers but all the visitors, this is not "normal" rain but torrential downpours :(
Grace, I know, this may end up being the longest Open in history. So far it's cloudy but the rains are holding out and they're going so fast I can hardly keep up!
I never really saw what others seemed to see in the "cute factor" of JT, but Laura's candids might have changed my mind...and MJ is a BIG man! The Oak Room makes you want to sit up and put your hands in your lap!
Cheryl, I love his music actually. And didn't even know he played golf :) You're right about the Oak Room, I ate in their once and it was a wonderful experience (but it's not stuffy).
