If you can drag yourself away from the glorious beaches, exploring the nearby Cedros Design District just one block east of the 101 is a real treat. If you have any interest in art, there are some terrific galleries to explore. And as an art lover, collector, and former gallery owner myself, the Susan Street Gallery is a real treat.
Susan Street Fine Art Gallery is located at 415 South Cedros, in the heart of the gallery area, so you can't miss it. Nor should you pass it up, for there is some extraordinary talent on the walls in this place. I have been impressed every time I have been there, including this evening during the monthly 3rd Thursday night art walk where I had an opportunity to appreciate their newest show, "Still + Life," featuring artists Frank Damiano, David Kimball Anderson, Page Laughlin, Stephen Dinsmore (my favorite), and Tom Seghi - this show runs through July 12 so you've plenty of time to get in to see it.
The website has a wonderful overview of their gallery artists with plenty of photos to enjoy And the gallery space itself is artfully designed - well lit, with interesting angles, great light, high ceilings, and intriguing peeks of works of arts from various viewpoints that surprise but don't overwhelm. There's something disconcerting - for me at least - about a gallery that hangs almost every inch of space with paintings that detracts from one's ability to appreciate the individual pieces, and Susan Street Fine Art Gallery does a remarkable job of using their space to showcase the talent within.
