For swimmy glowy waters, Aruba is quite a Caribbean gem.  For all the marketing tiny Aruba does to market its destination, you would think it was a huge country.  The country spends upwards to $50 million a year to market its destination which is a big budget for Caribbean nations, as I learned recently during the Caribbean Summit.  But it is just a little larger than Washington DC, as per the Viscape destination description below.

Aruba

Located about 15 miles north of the Venezuelan coast, Aruba – which is about the size of the Washington DC – is a flat, riverless island perfect for a quick getaway or an extended sabbatical. Considered an autonomous dependency of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Aruba is actually divided into two regions: the northeast coast – known for its rocky coastline, rough Atlantic seas and treacherous current – and the southwest coast – known for the white sand beaches and warm, teal blue waters.

Hi Caroline....my husand and I traveled to Aruba 8 years ago, and enjoyed it tremendously.  I didn't realize how small it was...the food was fantastic and I did buy a beautiful emerald and diamond bracelet.
