Learn from others people's mistakes.  

Learning from mistakes can be a very costly lesson.

A key to learning from a mistake is to take the experience, determine what when wrong, and determine what when right. Replay the series of events in your mind that lead to the mistake. Play the mistake forward with what you did right and what you would do differently to change the mistake to a successful outcome.

You have now created a successful experience from a mistake and you have put yourself in the position in the future to learn from other peoples mistakes.
