I have just referred myself to a "new" dermatologist, for me, since my old dermatologist office informed me that since I hadn't seen him in 5 years that I would be classified as a "new" patient.  I decided if I have to be new I would be new with someone else!  I talked with my friend Sue Franks and asked her how she liked her Dr. since I knew she was seeing him next week for some skin care.  She said that she liked him fine and he has an office in Supply, near where we live in Brunswick County, but that he couldn't see her there until much later in the year.  When I called for an appointment they asked me if I had ever seen Dr. Huppman before, and I said no, but that I had referred business to him because his patient Sue Franks and I used to get sunburned together as kids.  This of course, gave me VIP status and I'm now lined up to see him although not at the Supply office, but in Wilmington.

The point of all this is that we all need to be more careful in our sun exposure.  The old hours of hottest sunshine between 10am and 2pm need to be adjusted by daylight savings time, so now you should avoid overexposure between 11am and 3pm.  Use sunblock, wear a hat with a brim, being careful not to just rely on a visor and burn any "weak" (balding) spots on your head.  When you are swimming you should re-apply sunblock every hour or so.  When you are swimming during the peak sunburn hours consider wearing a tee shirt or other skin covering in the water.  On the beach, reflected sun can be a problem don't think you can avoid using sunblock just because you are sitting under an umbrella.

So, take these preparations and then you are prepared to take advantage of our wonderful beaches!
