If you live in San Diego, or you're coming to San Diego to visit, there's one thing that I think you absolutely have to do.
I can't believe that I've lived here since 1988 and never knew about this until very recently when my marketing guru and I discovered it and did it as part of our fifteenth anniversary.
It's Sea and Land Adventures' "San Diego Seal Tour." You board a strange-looking vehicle at Seaport Village in downtown San Diego, take a drive along the Embarcadero over to Shelter Island, and then, magically, your vehicle turns into a boat and takes you out into San Diego Bay where other water tours don't take you. Tickets are a mere $32 for adults and $16 for children, although you can get a discount if you buy online. Check out their web site and check out my slide show below.
If you're coming to San Diego for the 2009 Convention for the National Association of Realtors, other blog posts about the Convention can be found by clicking on NAR 2009 Convention San Diego.

That sounds like alot of fun! I have only done that one other time-in Boston. It was years ago and I believe that vehicle/boat had ducks all over it. What a neat thing-thanks for the information!
Thanks for telling us about the seals. I have visited San Diego many times and never have heard a word about this. Next time I want to check out the seals.
Hi Jim, thanks for another insightful post on San Diego. I can't believe these seals are just laying around like that! I think I could spend a day just watching those guys!
Hey, Andrea - And I had to go buy my bed at a store. LOL
Hey, Debra - I would love to have taken such a land/sea tour when I was in Boston back in 1999.
Hey, Liz - Does that mean you're coming to our fair city for the Convention?
Hey, Gary - Hope you'll give us a call when you get to San Diego next.
Hey, Silvia - We were disappointed when the SEAL turned around to head back to land. There's a huge colony of seals up in La Jolla that some people want to run off in favor of a beach area for children. We have miles and miles and miles of coastline for children to swim, but only one colony of seals that live on the beach and breed, having little babies each year that are a joy to watch. Every time I go to La Jolla there are lots of people, including children, ooohing and aaahing at the seals, but I've never heard a single child exclaim, "Mommy. I wanna go swimming there. Can we scare the seals away?" Children can go swimming just about anywhere, but the seals don't have very many places left to live. And interestingly, I think 99.9% of the homes in La Jolla have back yard swimming pools. Parents lose me sometimes with their demands for their children. No wonder why the up and coming generation are called the "entitle generation."
I haven't heard of the "San Diego Seal Tour" before. It looks like a lot of fun. I will have to check it out next time I am down there. We have a lot of seals in the San Francisco Bay. Boy, when they get to talking you can't hear anyone else talking!! They are so great and we are very fortunate to have them around. Thanks for the pictures and the post!!!
Jim I have been on the Duck Tours in DC and Baltimore. Same type of vehicle. The fun part about the Duck Tour is that you get a "duck call" and annoying drivers and pedestrians by quaking at them as you drive around is hilarious! Yeah I'm easily entertained!!!
Jim - These are the kind of things I like about California and we will be coming to visit Dan Diego before the year ends. Some great photos and your post has been featured at the group ...........
Having a large military population, we get a lot of people who relocate to and from San Diego. Several people have told me they will retire in your fine city. I look forward to one day make it to the east coast.
Jim, that sounds like fun, I will check it out the next time I am in San Diego - one of my favorite towns. How did you embed the slide show??? That is so cool!

Jim, look at those wonderful seals! And isn't that nice, you all put beds right out there for them to sleep and sun themselves on... :D
