The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Viking Range Corporation have announced a voluntary recall of Viking built-in 48-inch side-by-side refrigerator/freezers and built-in 36-inch refrigerators with bottom freezers.
"Viking has received 57 reports of doors detaching, including four reports of injuries involving bruises, broken toes/fingers, and strains, and minor damage to floors and counters."
The recalled refrigerators sold for between $4,725 and $6,400 from July 1999 through April 2006.
Free-standing models and the 42-inch models are not involved in the recall, and only certain model numbers and serial numbers, affecting about 45,000 units, are involved.
To determine if your refrigerator was recalled, check the model number and serial number on the official CPSC recall notice at the CPSC web site.

Thanks for this valuable information. . . I agree with Michael. .if I pay $6400 for a refrigerator. . it better have a beer line that replenish by itself !
Hey, Michael - I've never seen a Viking refrigerator, so I was quite surprised at the price. Maybe that's why I've never seen one; way out of my price range.
Hey, Kris - Like me. Sear, Kenmore, KitchenAid, etc. The true workhorses of refrigerators.
Hey, Gita - Your free-standing one's not involved in the recall, so you're okay.
Hey, Fernando - Mine would have to have a margarita line with an automatic margarita maker.
Hey, Roy - My mission now is to see if I can actually find a Viking refrigerator here since I've never seen one. I want to know what makes it worth that much money.
Hey, Ron - For that price, you're darn tootin' I would feel that way.
Hey, Sash - Defective appliances and recalls are one of my pet peeves since I had a house burn down that was blamed on a defective/recalled microwave.

That is a lot of money to pay for a poorly built refrigerator. Just goes to show you that price is not everything. You can pay 6K or a lemon...
