My early morning walk today took me over to Balboa Park to see the water pond in front of the Botanical Building since they drained it last year to get all of the illegally dumped and abandoned fish and turtles out of the koi and water lily pond.
Of course, someone's already been by to dump their red oscar, a jewel cyclid, and a big catfish.
Folks, if you don't want your fish anymore, virtually every fish store will take them back. Some will even pay you for them or take them as trade for smaller fish.
So if you like those little baby African and South American cichlids -- and everyone does because they are the most colorful of the freshwater fish -- but they grow too large for your aquarium and destroy everything, simply take the big boys back to the and start all over again with some small ones. It's far better and more fun than covertly sneaking around a pond at night and dumping and abandoning them.
Now, on to my special slide show of the koi and water lily pond, but this one is just for people named Lily. Alright, I'll let you watch if you are married to Lily, thinking about getting married to Lily, or with a friend or family member named Lily. No one else! Be forewarned. I have embedded a special Internet spy that will know if you watched the slide show and there are no Lilys in your life.

Russel, this is a really nice slide show, I'm feeling warmer already. By the way I do have a cousin and a sister-inlaw named Lily so I think I'm within the rules of observation as they apply to this post ...lol. Sue
I watch a TV show with someone named Lily on it, can that count? And I had NO clue a pet store would take the fish. UGH! I had a seller who didn't want to move their and a buyer who did not want them and I spent so much time finding them homes and never thought of the pet store. For Pete's sake, where were you two years ago when I needed this information?
OK, I have a friend named Lily and in some interpretations my name means lily as well, so I think I qualify :) Russel, that is a gorgeous, spectacular slide show -- thank you for posting it!
Hey, Suesan - Well, actually, I'll let you watch any of my slide shows at any time. Congratulations on the Featured Post, by the way. I'll be over soon to read it.
Hey, Dan - Why do I get the impression that you actually did watch it? LOL
Hey, Jim - If you watch it with Maria, then I guess it's okay.
Hey, Tammy - For some reason people get embarrassed when they buy a little fish that grows to be a monster. It's like they don't want to take it back to the fish store and admit that it got too big, yet the fish stores know that it's going to get too big for the small aquariums that most people have. Every fish store I've ever shopped at, though, will take them back, and the specialized aquarium/fish stores will trade for them.
Hey, Lisa - The next slide show I do I'm going to go with the medium pictures instead of the large pictures and see if that makes a difference.
Hey, Susan - Since you're in California, you're allowed to watch anyway, but it is good to know that you are legal, too, just in case the Lily Police stop by.
Hey, Shoshana - I knew there was something about your name that I liked.
