If you leave a comment, Russel will visit your blog and comment. There are a lot of stories about home inspectors finding interesting things in the attics and in the foundation crawl spaces. Unfortunately, still no one has found Jimmy Hoffa.

The most interesting thing I've found so far was a personal sleeping under the house. Not only was he sleeping there, he had more amenities under that house than there were in the house; of course, the house was vacant, but nonetheless.

I've always wanted to find some interesting wildlife in the attic or crawl space, but I don't even remember finding a stray cat, raccoon, opossum ... not even a rat or snake. So disappointing. Tell me again why I got into this busines....

I came close today at an inspection with an ActiveRain Realtor, Barb Fischer. Barb was one of the first Realtors with whom I worked as a home inspector back in 2001. Unfortunately, we had to split ways in 2003 or so when she went to work for a realty company that had a "pay to play" scheme, also known as a "concierge program" or a "preferred vendor list." For we home inspectors who abide by the Code of Ethics of any of the state or national trade associations, we're not allowed to pay to play. Several states also have laws in place preventing such conduct. Nonetheless, it was nice to work with Barb again after a six-year absence. Since she said that she had been reading my blog on ActiveRain, I hope that we can convince her to start Playing in the Rain more actively with us. Go let her know that it's a lot of fun Playing in the Rain and that none of us have ever caught a cold or gotten all wet by Playing in the Rain. Maybe an addiction....

And I did get to see the two largest, most beautiful wasp nests that I've seen in my sixteen years here in San Diego. Thanks, Barb!

I am glad you found Barb again.  I would the the pay and play would not be in the buyer's best interest.  I am shocked it is allowed to exit.

I definitely don't like wasps, Russel.  How nice it is that AR was able to reunite you and Barb after so many years.  You never know what's going to happen when you start blogging here.

Yikes, was the wasp nest vacant, or were the owner's still there?? Not a big fan of wasps, but I admit there nests are so intricate, they are really beautiful.

Watch out for the wasp is always on our mind over here in Texas, never know when you are going to come in contact. I had to knock down a big one over at my 92 year old mom's house this evening. She didn't even know it was there; Ceil just noticed the wasp flying around and when we looked up there it was. You don't want them mad with you. I carry wasp spray with me in my truck.

Don't bother looking for Jimmy Hoffa - he is in Paul Slaybaugh's trunk in that big pile.

Hi Russel - How nice to have a reunion with an old acquaintance!  I had wondered for many years whether my brother was dead or alive.  He and my parents had a falling out about 25 years ago and he was estranged from our family ever since.  I tried to find him when each of my parents died and when our sister died, but wasn't successful.  Just recently I received an email from him through Active Rain.  He had seen my blog posts and got in touch.  There is no end to what Active Rain can do, it seems!

Hey Russel!  We have lots of wasps this year and have found a hornet nest just recently.  Glad we had a treatment for them as I don't like either of them at all!!!

I am glad that Barb and you have re-united and hope she will continue to stop in on Active Rain, great info and lots of fun with friends!  Welcome Barb!

Hey, Angelia - Me being weird is no laughing matter. Well, it is for everyone who thinks I'm weird.

Hey, Joan - Actually, I think NAHI, the National Association of Home Inspectors, still allows pay for play for its members. But I could be wrong since I haven't checked up on them in a year or so. Hopefully they will fall in line if they haven't already.

Hey, Matt - I bet your kitties would have fun chasing those wasps everywhere. Zoey the Cool Cat gets excited when she seems them.

Hey, Heather -I've gotten more mileage out of 11 months here at Active Rain than the after "blogging" for five years at the message board for the International Association of Certified Home Inspectors.

Hey, Mary - The owners were on vacation, but I'm pretty sure they are supposed to be back real soon.

Hey, Russell - I can't tell you how many times I was stung as a young boy. Seems I never learned. A few weeks ago I was at an inspection and walked around the corner of the house smack dab (smack dab?) into a bush which had a swarm of wasps in it. I had a few interesting bumps on my face.

Hey, Carl - You don't have to tell me about the wasps in Texas. Nor the bumble bees, mosquitoes, etc. My home state does like to grow things big. LOL

Hey, Virginia - Well, at least we do know where he is. That's good. Has the family been notified?

Hey, Susan - I'm so happy for you. I'm estranged from all my family on both sides, and I have a very large Mormon and Catholic families.

Hey, Dona - I was just over at your blog. If I had known you were going to come by my place, I could have saved all that money I spent on gas driving over to your place. LOL
