In a article in MSNBC, Robert Alan Soloway, Top 10 Spammer, was arrested on Wednesday in Seattle for alleging using zombie computers to send mass emails. In years past, Microsoft and a small ISP won indictments on Soloway for the same practice but now it is a whole new ball game. With him facing jail time and away from a computer internet users should notice a dramatic decrease in the amount of SPAM we are receiving.

Hooray!! For all of us who make a living using the internet and email this a very very joyous day! I look forward to seeing a noticeable decline in the amount of crap hitting my inbox everyday so let us throw an AR party and open the door for more note worthy emails that demand our attention and not just deletion, read full article.

Update

There is a way to fight back through posting Spammers to watch lists like The Spamhaus Project.

Throw away the key! I wonder if there is going to be any retribution in the sentencing?

I wrote about this earlier today as well.  I first caught it on the news last night.  It will be interesting to see if there are volume changes or not.

LOL.  A SPAMMER in the SLAMMER!  Poetic justice?  Okay, that was bad. :P   That is great news. Spammers also cost all of us money by using up bandwidth that they aren't paying for, not to mention every site they visit and cost money. I hope they keep catching them-Charles

As a web developer who host our client's websites, it's a constant battle to try to provide reliable email with a minimum amount of spam. One less spammer makes my job a little bit easier!

Hey Toby,

I thought you should know that using all uppercase letters is a trademark of the actual food called SPAM.  After following that link, click on "SPAM and the Internet".

SPAM is a registered trademark of Hormel Foods, LLC.

They want everyone on the internet to use spam if referring to unwanted email.  LOL Good luck with that one, right?
