So You Want to Be Part of the Team

I am still working out the details for putting together a real estate team.  I thought I would toss out a few of my thoughts and see what sticks.  The Active Rain experts have been a big part of my inspiration so far and I am sure they will not let me down in my time of need.

The TeamThe overall goal for the team is to put together a group of top professionals that will raise the bar.  Potential clients should feel it would be crazy call anyone but us.  Our team members should be known as "My Realtor" by a very large segment of our community.

Our team needs to be respected by our peers.  When an offer comes in from us, agents on the other side should get excited.  They need to know it will be a pleasant transaction.

To be part of our team you will need to meet a set of standards (I am still working on this list):

  • Professional development is mandatory.  (Attending all team training and work towards earning your designations)
  • All transactions will be handled professionally, always.
  • Client files will be complete and orderly.
  • Our services list is the minimum requirements for any transaction - no exceptions.
  • Team members will be active in the real estate community.
  • We will strive to be the elite professionals in our market - no predatory practices will be tolerated.
  • There is no such thing as part time.  If you are a part time agent, the team may consider taking you on only if there is a plan in place to go full time in a reasonable period of time.
  • The NAR code of ethics is only a starting point.  We will always conduct ourselves with the absolute highest set of ethics possible at all times.
  • All buyers will be fully pre-approved by a funding lender.  No one enters a home or gets in your car without it.
  • All sellers have to agree to our marketing plan and agree to their responsibilities in the process before signing a listing.
  • All members of the team will be involved in the community.  We need to give back.

The team still needs a name.  It must be original and it must make a strong statement.  I am looking for something that people remember.

My personal slogan "Not Just Another Pretty Face" has been extremely effective for me.  It has given me great name and face recognition.

I will stop here for now.  Over the next few weeks I hope to have an assistant in place and will have formalized the logistics with my company.

Sounds like you'll have a winning team with the highest ethics and professionalism. Good luck!

Add to this list a couple of things that I've found to be critical:

Be able to leave your personal ego at the door to help the team grow and serve our clients best.

Take the DISC profile test to ensure a good fit with other team members. (This has been great for me, since I tend to like people like myself-but a good team covers all bases since we have clients with all different personalities).

Good luck!

Randy - I have read this and will keep it in mind - check back with you on any ideas I come up with - nice starting point

Randy sounds like it will be a great team if you can meet all these standards.  As far as the name goes, I am terrible at doing that, so I will just stick to mortgages, and leave the naming of the team to the creative people.

Leigh - Thank you for that insight.

Thesa - I truely appreciate you help.

George - When my wife was pregnant with my youngest we had a hard time with the name, so we formed a committee.  My wife my first son and me.  I did not like my wife's choices, she did not like mine.  My son's first pick for a boy and if it was a girl were the ones we picked.  So he actually came up for the name of his younger brother.  Maybe I will recruit him in this process.

Good for you, Randy.  I love how you've already planned most of this out.

Brian - I will have to think about that one.  I hadn't considered a Hawaiian name.  Thank you for that great suggestion.
