Here we are at the first day of Summer in Sunny Naples Florida.  I have never stayed in Florida this long.  The latest I stayed was mid June of 2008 and the earliest I have ever arrived was October.

I have heard all of the negative things about Florida in the summer time and now I will see for myself.

  • Bugs, I imagined swarms of large bugs but so far only some gnats and mosquitoes (be prepared and apply bug spray.
  • Heat, I imagined opressive heat that would make you pass out in a moment, the hottest it gets is in the high 90's (carry water along with you and it is fine)
  • The "Rainy Season"...yes, it rains every day, usually in the afternoon or evening and then it is gone until the next evening.
  • The sun is very intense so dress accordingly with light white clothing and a hat.
  • The beach is less crowded so you will always be able to find a spot
  • The roads are less crowded
  • The local restaurants are running specials daily.

So far, so good, especially since our friends up North, specifically New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York and Maryland have experienced 15 straight days of rain.  Come on down to the Sunshine and get some great off season deals.

Um, Christine, are you sure you are not writing a post with an actual description of the first day of spring here in Washington, DC?  It was hot, muggy, and I am covered with bug bites I got showing property.  Yikes!
