My first fathers day without him...it has been one rough day...

By

My first fathers day without him...it has been one rough day...but last night just thinking about it was worse.

It's amazing the power of a father.  The power of his speech, his advice, his compassion and his love.

The family figure who used to always be there for a smile, a laugh, a joke...then when you needed very astute advice.

I wish all of you fathers a very blessed day today.

I showed two properties today (I know but the seller's are sort of desperate, the buyers are in a hurry and it was a third showing), and it was so neat to see how the two families (who I interrupted today) has such unique family plans...breakfast in bed for dad and a special lunch planned and a cake with a special dinner planned was so nice to see.  The other was different, the father was ironing clothes for his wife...all the while, the wife was out in this heat here (95 degrees in south Florida) doing gardening, etc...

Just goes to show you that every family has different was to celebrate this day.

How did you celebrate Father's day with your family?

Gaye,

Yes, this is a sad day.  Dad just passed May 21 of this year.  I did get to tell him that I loved him the night before.  I have so many wonderful memories...

Funny,,,lasti night I was reminiscing about the time I was 16 and driving up to the house with no breaks...he said, as I'm yelling out the window..."Just drive in...it will end up SOMEWHERE in the back yard", and OH...try to miss the garage...makes me laugh!

He was the best...they called him "Doc", cause he could fix anything with paperclips, rubber bands, and a freshly chewed piece of gum (to plug a leak)...funny the things you remember...

Thanks for posting.

Karen, my father passed away July of last year.  I think of him all the time and today is the first year there are no hugs or kisses or "I love you's".  There are moments when I'm overcome with sadness.  I still talk to him everyday and know that he loves me because I love him and I believe that love doesn't disappear or die.   I've chosen to focus on his sense of humor, his laugh, his kindness and compassion.  I know that my father would want me to be happy when I remember him not sad.  I like to look at my dad's passing this way.  It's like walking out of a room...just because the people left in the room can't see you, doesn't mean that you don't exist.  You can still hear their chatter and laughter and chuckle with them even though they can't see or hear you.  My heart goes out to you.

Karen,

I'm so sorry for your recent loss. I wish you healing as you work through the process of grieving.

I appreciated you sharing how different families spent the day.

My children and I made Dutch Babies and natural turkey bacon and a huge fruit salad for their Dad this morning. And then we just finished a steak BBQ for him. Nice quiet day at home.

Take care!

Liz,

My heart goes out to you as well.  I to talk to my father every day...I sit on my porch and tell him I need a hug, and you know what...every now and then it's almost as though I feel it.

I had a great life!  I cannot complain...other than...I wish he was still here...

Sorry for your loss.

My daughter gave her daddy a card she colored.  Then she painted and made him a picture. Then we went to the park and played in the Springs, cold water... but it was 100 degrees so the water felt good.  We went on a train ride around the park. We went to lunch.  And then played in the baby pool before bed.  We're all exhausted!

Nannette,

That is fantastic.

My family would get together along with my children and spend the day at their summer home...it was on a wide creek.  He would be working on the boat so we could go for rides or water ski...so much fun...great memories...

Glad you had a nice day!  It's so important.

Hi Karen,

I'm glad you kept busy today and isn't it funny how we notice the simple things in other people's lives when we have such a void in our own?  I'm sorry about the loss of your father and I do hope that as time goes by, your heart will heal.  Remember, your memories of your wonderful father will last your lifetime.

Karen,

This breaks my heart. I remember going through this with you. I forgot about this day. Geez, I am so sorry. This is a good picture of you both. At the risk of sounding like a Hallmark card, the pain will fade with time and leave you with the good memories. Thank goodness for that!

Your Pal,

Terri

Debe,

Thank you for those kind thoughts.  I showed property in the morning...then decided to go shopping (which I hate to do - but friends said there were some great sales)..ok I can do a sale...

Did that in the afternoon..went for dinner, went home and the rest of the night was so empty as I used to talk to my father for hours every night.

My dad and I were so close...so very close...it is just really hard.

Thanks for your support!

So sorry for your loss...It must have been a very difficult day, indeed.   Glad you have such wonderful memories to cherish.  It is a real tribute to your father's memory for you to remember him in this way on father's day.  Hold on to the good memories and know he is with you in spirit.
