Last week I took a few much needed days off -- business has been extremely busy and it felt good to vacation.  Actually read a magazine and got to thinking that it would be great to have a few days to catch up at home, go pick some strawberries and maybe make a strawberry pie.  Maybe I should take a day and go to the beach, or Silver Creek Falls -- I love those places!!

Well -- while I was vacationing my evil real estate associates (I thought  some of them were my friends) have been foiling my plans.

First day back home - had to destage a property that sold.  Was on the market --F-O-R-E-V-E-R--, was staged and sold within a couple of months.  Hooray -- I really am happy for these great sellers and the agent too!

But then I got an email - the model home we prepared has sold - can we move it soon?

Then another - the house that was so difficult to sell has gotten an offer - will close in a couple of weeks.

And then today - the straw that broke my back -- two other staged homes sold this week end!

This doesn't count the redesign we worked on that now has a great offer too . . . only have to move some accessories from that sold home.

Go ahead - tell me it's a slow market (if you were moving this much furniture you would not think the market was slow either).  Just when I was ready to sit in the lawn chair and sip a long tall one and work on my tan, these agents go and spoil all my fun!  Don't you think they should take a break and quit working so hard too -- remember -- it's a SLOW market (somewhere).

The next time I'm going on vacation I'm going to be taking my real estate agent friends with me I guess -- they make way to much work for me while I'm gone selling these properties!

Meanwhile, I guess I'll just be looking at the pictures of these falls as we pack up our furniture/decor and move it on to the next "slow" selling home!  Anyone want to pick some strawberries for me?

I'm with you Margaret, I just got back from a 10 day vacation and it seems like everyone wanted to meet last week...then there's the hundreds of emails to sift through (takes a lot of time, even if half of them are junk). The hardest part was no wi-fi where I was, although it forced me to not think about my business as much...

Margaret - What a cute post.  I'm glad to hear that you're busy.  Your staging is awesome so it comes as no surprise.

Congrats sounds like your busy!  Most stagers are whining they don't have anything to do.

You GO girl! Where's the slow market?! I don't see it! If you have a buyer that's looking for ANYTHING under $250K, competition is fierce and you'd better be prepared with a pre-qualed buyer!

LOL too true, everytime I go on vacation , no matter how well planned....heres my best example to date.

I tried to go to a Willie Nelson Concert last year, and spent some quality time on top of a hill in my campground to get reception on my blackberry so I could e-mail negotiations back and forth ( email worked but phone receoption was rotten ) and keep in contact with the lender. The real kicker was that my buyer was in LABOR and insisted on negotiation then. By the end of the weekend they had a deal and a baby boy and I had a hell of a time at the concert relieving my stress. They are very happy with their home and think I am the greatest.

Sometime if I'm having a slow week I think I should just go on vacation and see what happens.

In this business there is no 9-5 or Monday thru Friday it's all hours and you put on your smile and enjoy the ride, right.

Margaret:  Sounds lilke things are hopping in the Mid Valley.  I remember those days when the market wes on fire and things sold in hours.  I remember setting houses at 2AM and pryaing for the sotres to open at 6 AM so I could finish a project before tour at 11AM.  What you put out comes back 10 fold... keep up the great work.

Vacation!  What's that?  Margaret, this is way, way too funny.  It's those darn clients... If it wasn't for them we could be on permanent vacation.  This is a very timely post in that Linda and I have just recently decided that after 5 years at break neck speed with no vacations we are going to take a break this coming January...  And whereto you ask?  To the RESA Convention in Vegas!  Are we sick people or what?

I'm glad to see everyone else has the same opinions about going on vacation in this business.  It's so true though, isn't it?  Funny, I have a buyer who will probably be negotiating while in labor too, next month when I go traveling!

Margaret - You were so gracious when I called just before your vacation to see if you could work with one of my clients - only to find out that she's just not ready (but she's getting there). Hope you had a wonderful time!

How hysterical! It's Murphy's Law, isn't it? Once you TRY to relax, nobody will LET you!  What are these Realtors thinking giving you such a hard time and great stats to boot! ;)

(Congrats on the feature!)

Just think Margaret....this December we might have another snow strom like last winter and then you can have 3 weeks off!  Sorry you're missing the falls and the berry-picking but so happy for your successful business!

Hey Margaret,

I think that special "staging furniture," is in your future.  Makes my back hurt just thinking about it.

Poor Joe......

I just took a few days off IN OREGON!  Ate fresh strawberries, went to the beach, hung out at the gorge - what a wonder-ful place.  And yes, got a new lead and offer on a short sale the night before I left!

Hi Margaret, who says that Real Estate is not selling?????We have had similar situations here in Vancouver, Canada.  Everything we have been staging is selling, fast....it seems that we just get it up and then it is coming down.  Good for flipping the inventory arond but not making for a very relaxing summer :-)

Lol Margaret. It DOES seem like things move much more quicker when you don't want them to move. I had vacation last week in Hawaii. I have never had so much NEW activity as this past week. It is a great problem to have though.

Hi Margaret,

I can so relate! My partner went on vacation back in January and February and for those weeks she was away, I was frenetically busy. Then she came home and .... nada. Figures. We have been really busy for months now but I have tentatively planned a vacation for the end of August. I told my partner - don't call me, I won't be home and she has threatened to plant a GPS tracker in my clothing! We both know (and its definitely not a bad thing) that she will get a dozen panicked phone calls, emails from new clients and staging and destaging things to do while I'm away. That's why I'm glad there is the two of us! At the very least she can handle most of it until I get back!
