If you leave a comment, Russel will visit your blog and comment.About ten years ago, a couple of male attorneys sued a nightclub for having a "Ladies Night," a night when the two male attorneys were denied admittance. They turned it into a class-action lawsuit and settled out of court for hundreds of thousands of dollars.

In 2004, a male attorney, Alfred Rava, sued the Oakland A's for sex discrimination. The crime? Giving a plaid hat to ladies at a Mother's Day game that year. Attorney Rava turned it into a class action lawsuit. An out-of-court settlement was reached recently for $250,000: "The first 2,500 men who can prove they are men and attended the game on May 8, 2004" will receive a cash and discount package worth $100. Hmmmm. I'm not sure I want to know what the men might be required to do in order to prove they are men.

Attorney Rava has a reputation for suing anyone and everyone for sex discrimination and perceived sex discrimination:

  1. Los Angeles Angels for giving ladies pink tote bags
  2. San Diego Nightclubs, restaurants, and theaters that had ladies' nights and men's nights
  3. San Diego Padres for having a "women only baseball clinic."

I hope he doesn't come after me because I provide discounts to military personnel; repeat customers; ESL people; etc. I even have a "Family" discount for gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and transgendereds. Hmmmm. I better check to see if Attorney Rava is straight.

The San Diego Padres gave baseball gloves to children on Father's Day, totally ignoring the fathers. Let's hope the Padres don't get sued for age discrimination.

We need serious tort reform of our legal system. Notice that I did not call it a "justice" system because it is anything but. It seems to be a financial redistribution system for attorneys.

Make it a great day!

Do you think if Mr. Rava had to actually pay another lawyer's bill to sue all these people, he would be so "ambitious"?  I hope he gets stuck with any legal bills he generates for others when he fails in court.  Even if you win, the legal bills you generate having to fight this nonsense make you a loser!

I know you are kidding, the baseball glove can ONLY serve to bond the children with their fathers who will be playing catch with them, there must be a lawsuit in there somewhere??? LOL

Oh and what are ESL people?

Daytona Beach would be in real hot water. Ladies always get into night clubs free. And if they try to charge us? We start walking away. Then guess what happens? They immediately call us back and just let us walk right in. Where there are women, the men will pay to get in. It's business. Oh! I should mention that this free admission is supposed to be only for locals, but if visitors know how to play this, they can get away with it too.

BTW, this is totally off-topic, but I just read a blog that is right up your alley. You have to see this. LOL!

Tort Reform is one of my pet peeves!  It's truly awful how innocent people are abused and raked over the coals for this kind of justice.

I love the system that give us this freedom but the laws are not fair.

Once it cost us over $25,000.00 to prove we were innocent in the first place for a frivolous lawsuit!

So if Mr. Rava is not an ambulance chaser what exactly does he chase?

Hey, Rick - I've always tried to work on the premise that if you get sued, you've already lost. I hope that I establish sufficient rapport with my Clients that if they have a problem, they will call me first rather than their attorney.

Hey, Tammy - ESL stands for "English as a Second Language." In other words, Spanish-speaking people who know a little English. I provide a discount to Spanish-speaking Clients if they bring their own translator since about the only Spanish I know is "Uno mas margarita, por favor!"

Hey, Brenda - If I can be the co-plaintiff, absolutely! Right now the Texas Longhorn baseball team is ticking me off - LOL.

Hey, Lisa - It's common knowledge that women in night clubs mean men in nightclubs. Even I would go to a nightclub if there were a lot of men there - LOL.

Hey, Diane - I went to over to Diane's blog and commented, and I'll have to visit Robert's, too.

Hey, Lisa - Ever since my first lawsuit back in 1982, when I was just a small business with no business insurance, I've carried appropriate insurance. I try to be proactive in working with my Clients who have complaints, and fortunately I've only had about 10 complaints in 8 years, all resolved, but if the big one came down the line, I'd turn it over to my insurance company.

Hey, Larry - Attorney Rava has created a very nice niche market for himself - LOL.

Hey Russel, ever wonder what life would really be like without attorneys to screw things up. Imagine a world where we actually had to come to terms with each other without courts and all the B.S. I like to give it a try.

Russell, there are quite a few other stories, like the guy in the wheelchair who went into businesses and sued them because he couldn't get around/ Or in the case of a business in my area, said they were too helpful and called attention to him and made him feel uncomfortable.  There's a group called, "Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse" and one of the best chapters is in San Diego (www.sdcala.org).  I used to run the group in Los Angeles county.  You should check them out!  And there are groups all over the country dedicated to raising awareness if anyone else is interested.
