Seems to me that a web site is valued not by the monthly cost but by the business it generates compared to the cost.

depending. .I'm forking over nearly $6000 for a new website. . better be worth it

If you just want a presence and framed idx . .you can accomplish that for under $30 per month. .the next level is custom and the range is from $2000 to upwards of $30,000

Paying $100 per month is a no brainier if you have collected at least 10 REAL leads form your website these past 30 days. .

zero leads?

FIRE THEM!

Check out some web sites of other agents on AR  and if you like the site ask them about it.

If you are comfortable doing some of the work yourself, you can easily have a web site for less than a couple hundred dollars per year.

Here's one thought  (Please forgive me if you already know this stuff):

Sign up for a WordPress.com blog - it's free.  Tinker around with it and learn how to use "pages" to make your blog function as a website.  Learn a little basic HTML.  Learn about Search Engine Optimization.  Search here on Active Rain and you'll find plenty of info on these topics.

Once you've got a handle on using WordPress.com, sign up for a hosting account at BlueHost or GoDaddy (will run about $10-$12 per month), install WordPress.org (.org is the do-it-yourself version; again, it's free) and have at it....

On the other hand, it does take some time and effort to get the thing looking as slick as those professionally prepared sites.   Does your $100-per-month site include IDX?

Another thought:  If you really work Active Rain and Localism you may find they bring you as much (or more) business than your static web site.

Some of the factors you need to evaluate whether the website is providing you with leads, whether it can be found in Google and other search engines, the quality of the website, cost and so much more.

Joel, like others above have said, it's the return on investment that counts.  If it's generating nothing, it's too much, if you're getting business out of it, it's fine.

if it meets revenue expectations it is a good use of your $$$.

Joel:  For some people, paying $100 am month is much too high.  For others, it is a real bargain.  It all depends on what your rewards are... what your return on your investment is.  If it makes you money, it's worth it.  Figuring it out is not too complicated.

@ Fernando:  For the life of me, I cannot imagine paying $6,000 for a website.  What company are you using ?  Do you have any links to examples of their websites that other agents are using ?  I would love to check them out.

@ Dennis:  I just looked at your website... and found the music, although it sounded nice, I found it very distracting.  There is no way I could spend time on your site... with that music playing.  Also... if anyone who is at work and sneaking a look at your website... turned it on and had the music play... they could close it as fast as they could.  Just a thought.

Seems a bit high too me. I guess it depends on how many leads yo are getting for that. I pay $40 per month from Advanced Access.
