Miami HeraldA chapter of the book Realty Blogging deals with the impact blogs can have as a public relations tool. Over the years I was sought out by mainstream media writers for quotes and source information and now I am happy to announce so has my star pupil, Ines!

None other than the venerable Miami Herald referenced Ines and her blog in an article about the start of hurricane season...

"Ines Hegedus-Garcia, a Realtor in Miami Shores who writes a blog on the residential real estate market and the Shores community, has posted a notice about the tax-free shopping days on her website to alert clients and friends and said she'll be shopping for her supplies during the next 12 days"

This about this for a minute. A major mainstream, traditional media outlet sourced a real estate blogger for information and used it in an article. Do you realize the implications of that?

New media is turning old media on its heels. For quite sometime journalists have been researching blogs for source information and this instance is just one more case-in-point that a sea-change has taken place. Don't think the old guard media is not taking notice. They are.

I'm so happy to be a small (teeny-tiny) part of a movement that is shaking up the way people communicate. It's truly awesome to think that anyone with access to the Internet can have "the power of the pen" in much the same way as mainstream media did only a few years ago. The tide has turned. Grassroots, hyper-local, consumer-generated media is not only the wave of the future. It is the NOW!

Paul thanks for bringing this to our attention. I am so happy for Ines to have this kind of publicity/spotlight. And she richly deserves it too!

It's also good news for all of us who are blogging our hearts out.

Very cool Ines.  Imagine, a news publication quoting a real estate professional and actually really quoting them - no twists and misconstrued remarks.  It is a happy day all around!  On a serious note, very cool.  Paul thanks for letting us know.

Congrats, Ines, and quite well deserved! I think a great follow-up would be a post about your shopping trip, complete with pics and more tips for the hurricane season. And c'mon Miami Herald -- next time include a link to Ines' blog!

Paul - and to think that a couple of months I was reading your book (Realty Blogging for those that don't know) where it reads:  "Paul is a business blog consultant.  The only way he has ever marketed his business is through his blog.......He writes frequently, passionately, and knowledgably about this new media revolution called blogging.  The result? High search engine returns and calls from members of the media who are hungry to write stories about blogging.  The media find him through search engine queries!".....and thought to myself "WOW, wouldn't it be nice to be mentioned by the local media?"

So you know I was jumping like a little girl today and doing the Cabbage Patch!!  and you did not have a "small part" in this movement.....you have a HUGE part and I thank you for your constant encouragement.

As for John....I did think the same thing, but at least I made it there and in the closing paragraph.

This is great!  It is nice to be seeing some movement toward recognizing what we do as a real, valued service to our communities.  I often feel like a little mini- reported when I go around gathering information for my Localism posts, and I do them with pride.  I enjoy showing others what a great place we live in.

I had not thought about blogging as a marketing instrument until someone talked me into joining AR. I now make it a major part of my marketing investment.

That is such a rush...Congratulations Inez.

Not sure I agree about the print media...still love my paper in the morning while drinking my coffee. But there's definately room for both.

Paul...thanks for making it increasingly clear that I need to write MORE!! Ohhh the pressure!

I'm not suggesting that print media is dead. However, it is on the wane. I don't think that can be denied. Nor am I suggesting that mainstream media doesn't have a place. I think there is good synergy between old media and new.

What interests me is the marketing opportunity it affords. I would encourage you to make contact with local media and let them know you're writing about the local real estate market.

That's how I ended up getting a front page story in the Sunday edition of my local paper. I contacted the reporter who covered the technology sector. Blogging as a business marketing tool was still in its infancy at that time and I was the only local source for such information. I ended up getting a client or two as a result, and it cost me nothing.

this is great news for us at AR... for Miami...and for South Florida.

The SunSentinel and Palm Beach Post will hopefully follow suit as their real estate correspondents have the smell of the detached journalist types rather than the people who are living and breathing the sport.
