Well, okay. So now to the new less than perfect economy, falling equity, restrictive real estate Lending Criteria, rising unemployment, and high gas prices we must deal with the threat of a missile. 97433163.jpg cecelia hiding under the desk haha image by ssuperxspecial

FLASHBACK...THE BAY OF PIGS.

Yes, of course I was very very young but I remember the fear as if it were yesterday. We could be playing in the front yard of our modest neighborhood and a siren would sound. This was a practice run in case we were being bombed. I was required to run into the house and crawl under my bed.

The threat was so real that we had regular practice sessions HIDING UNDERNEATH OUR DESKS in our little classrooms. I can honestly say that this type of fear has affected my whole life. When you are that young you are not suppose to look into the face of death. We should not realize our mortality till much later in life.

WAKE UP WORLD.

We don't want our grandchildren to have to live through a similar time. Or, our children. Reading this news of our threat from Korea simply shakes the ground I walk on.

We should all be grateful that the sun is shining, our health is good, and we've been promised A CHANGE FOR THE BETTER IN OUR GREAT USA...

WAITING...

Hi Deb,

You are right! Children shouldn't have to live in that kind of fear, ever. Some say the US should just bomb our enemies and eradicate them completely... hmmm.

Deb

I remembere those days all too well. Does time ever fly?

I was the squirmy kid in class that the teacher had to yell at to  "get back under the desk or go to the principal!"

Tom, maybe you're too young to remember the bomb drills in the 60,s? It was very scary.

Trey, if you lived through it you will never forget!

Tony, what are they doing to our children's psyche? It didn't help mine any!

Deb, you are talking duck and cover here. Hopefully the North Korean threat will not be on the order of the Bay of Pigs but we must stay vigilant of course.

Deb, I remember going in to the hall and we would all sit on the floor and put our hands over our heads.  I'm not quite sure what that was going to accomplish.  I think the riots during my high school had an even stronger impact on me though.

Hi Deb A thought provoking post.  Who would ever want their child to go through panic and fear..realistically it is all around us...look at society today... Korea is threatening news ...but we face a threat everyday,  maybe not as serious as the Bay of Pigs or the Korean threat but it's here......  We never use to be so fearful ...we never lock our doors, or carry around mace or rode  the subways at night, or have two people at an open house to protect ourselves fro an assult. the list goes on and on.

Hi Deb. I remember. I remember the air raid drills, hiding under the school desk with your hands over your neck ( like that could actually have protected us) and the bomb shelters. I thought my father didn't care about us because he wouldn't get one. what do you think happened to those bomb shelters?
